Recommend me a shotgun
Recommend me a shotgun
I am in the market for a home defense shotgun. I've had my car broken into but never my house. Kinda looking at Benelli m4 or a KSG even though KSG is rare

I never shot a KSG, but the Specs and design are impressive, I'd get one and add the foregrip That's one of the few guns I'd take to part with my Rem 870 (below)psijac wrote:I am in the market for a home defense shotgun. but the price is a bit high still

a bit cheaper here

Benelli m4 is decent, but for a home defense gun ...
I wouldn't trade my Remington 870 in a folding stock with extended magazine tube, sidesaddle, and Butler Creek Foregrip (no longer available) for the Benelli m4, but only because I have no left hand and my Butler Creek Foregrip (no longer available) compensates for the no left hand (or an injured left hand/arm --- something to consider - get something you can handle/pump/practice one-handed in a pump for home defense) A vertical grip on the foregrip can assist in one-handed operation That's a huge plus for the Keltec (and capacity)

And yes, I inserted the shells the other way now in the sidesaddle so they are quicker to remove and load under the gun

But for Zombies in masse ... bullpup semiauto 16 rd capacity
SRM M1216 SEMI-AUTO 12GA SHOTGUN 16 ROUND CAPACITY w/2 MAGS

I'd hate to surrender a @,800 shotgun to police temporarily investigating a simple home invasion/self defense shooting, but for the Zombie Apocolypse when you need a quick reload of 16 more shells with a magazine swap ...

Re: Recommend me a shotgun
The standard responses are either the Remington 870 or the Mossberg 500/590.
They are both reasonably priced, reliable guns.
I personally prefer the Mossbergs because I'm a lefty, and I find the mossberg tang mounted safety easier to manipulate.
Can't go wrong with either one though.

Don't be silly.
13 rounds of tripple 0 buck as fast as you can squeeze. Right now living behind my headboard with an eotech on top and a 20 rd drum of slugs in the night stand drawer.

Hopefully I will get my form 1 back soon and can cut her down. Then saving for a can. What other shotgun can you do all that with?

But ... Obama doesn't want people to have those Imported Saiga AK-47 shotguns and especially not one with a rail or attached light!!!JeepGuy79 wrote:Don't be silly.

Kinda a reason to get one; just because.

Re: Recommend me a shotgun
I bought a MKA 1919 in April and love it. It's an AR style semi auto 12 gauge. A company out of Indiana started importing them from Turkey last year, so they are fairly new on the market.
Surprisingly accurate too - I use mine for home defense and shooting skeet, using regular AR iron sights.
Much less customization needed than the AK style Saigas.

Have a Rem 870 would be willing to sell.

Re: Recommend me a shotgun
Good luck finding a KSG that isn't priced at nearly double the retail price. Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590 is my best suggestion for a home defense shotgun, with my personal preference being the Mossberg also, due to the placement of the safety. Do you use a shotgun for anything other than HD? If so, you might want to consider just using your field gun for defense duty. You should already be familiar with it and no doubt shoot more rounds through it than you will a defense duty only shotgun. Familiarity trumps tactical-coolness any day.
Re: Recommend me a shotgun
I like a berg in a pump cause I like a standard stock and it is easier for me to hit the safety. Some people use pitol grip stock or pistol grips on shotguns and if you like that the 870 is for you as it is impossible to reach the safety on a berg with a pistol grip without moving your grip unless you have a 13" long thumb. i don't like the 1100 for home defense as they are fairly long for the capacity they have and if you cut them down they sometimes run poorly. Our local swat team had a 14" 1100 and it ran like crap so they ditched it.
I like AK's so the saiga is for me.

With a budget you have the sky's the limit. Being a 3 gun guy I like the Mossberg 930SPX or JM model. I prefer my SPX bc of the ghost ring. Now my converted Saiga is awesome but not completely reliable. Now why not get an AR with red dot. That's my bump in the night gun
Re: Recommend me a shotgun
Take off the gass block and open the ports a little. replace the puck with the self cleaning one. The dropped tension recoil spring and the 4 way gas regulator and you can run anything. I can shoot skeet all day with my saiga on the crappiest low brass from walmart or smoothly sling high brass slugs. Its a sewing machine. The 20 guage is too. Give her some love and she will be a champ. best thing is opening the gas ports and getting the 4 way IMO.cajunautoxer wrote:With a budget you have the sky's the limit. If you have an Academy Sports store close by, this is a good Norinco 870 clone.
