Need help buying gun online

#1

Post by CBuchanan »

Never purchased a gun online. Not sure how to go about the whole thing. I know what FFL I want it shipped to. Just not sure what I need to tell shipper and receiving FFL. Really just confused about the whole process.

I have used Buds Guns several times and I use a local pawn shop as my FFL. Buds has a list of FFL holders and a copy of their current license. If your FFL is not on their list, the FFL can send a copy to them and they will ship the gun to that FFL dealer. I'm sure other online dealers work the same way. The shipment will have your name and address/phone number on it and the FFL will call you when it comes in. Be sure to find out in advance what the FFL charges for the transfer. Once the gun gets to the FFL, you will fill out the paperwork just like you do at a local gun shop.

Ask the FFL if you can have a firearms shipped there. If so you need a copy of his FFL. Buy a USPS Money Order and send the Money Order and copy of FFL to the seller.

If the seller is an individual I always make sure I have to good phone numbers for him (that he answers). I also want a physically address no P.O. Boxes.

If it is a individual you can always send the M.O. and FFL with a signature required.

Ask the seller to give you a tracking number when he ships it.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I'm not ordering through buds. I'll be ordering from an out of state dealer. Going to buy my first 1911. Well it's going to be one heck of a gift from my father.

Use http://www.GrabaGun.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

NO Credit card fees, $5.95 shipping.
Only issue, you WILL pay Texas 8.25% tax
They have really good prices, and are great to deal with (from people I have talked to)
IF you are close to Carrollton, you can pick it up from them and no FFL needed.

You're better off with Buds, unless you really want to pay sales tax. If that's the case, you should just ask your local dealer what price they want for a gun. Most guns on Grabagun.com I can meet in terms of pricing (and yes, you'll pay sales tax with me too, but at least I'm only 7.75% ;-) ).

To be honest, most folks prefer to take the 8% "discount" by ordering from out of state. Technically, you are still obligated to pay the "use tax" on your purchase, but that's between you and the state of Texas.

I'm planning on a Wilson Combat 5" XTAC so it's not something I can buy just anywhere.

I CC a G19. I can CC my G21SF but prefer not to due to the holster I have for it. I have worn my buddies 5" s&w 1911 with no issues.

I CC a full size gun as a primary all the time. 5" 1911, no problem, 4" 686 no problem, full size M&P no problem, High Power no problem, XD no problem, AR15 slight problem :evil2: . With the correct belt and holster combined with correctly fitting clothes any normal handgun can be carried concealed.
