Got some range time in today with my brand-new Bushmaster .308 ORC in not great weather conditions - 15+ winds and temps in the low 50s.
First box of 20 rounds worked flawlessly. I found if I kept the butt stock tight in my shoulder, the recoil wasn't too bad. Then the problems began .
Gave the Bushy to my buddy to shoot and the first shell from the next box was a fail to fire due to a light hammer strike (we had more FTFs), then he was getting double taps with a single trigger squeeze. Then I tried it (not believing what I was seeing) and got double taps. Edit: actually the second round fired on the trigger release.
We were in such a hurry to leave for our Thanksgiving trip out west after buying the Bushy, I only cleaned the barrel and not the action, so I'm hoping the problem can be resolved with cleaning and oiling, but I seriously have my doubts this is a clean-oil fix situation. I have a feeling there is something more going on here.

Re: FTFs, double taps with my brand new Bushy .308
I'm stumped... My bushy Orc in 5.56 has worked flawlessly using any and every round I've tried from federal, wwb, brass and steel case. I've bump fired it double tapped and single shot firing with it. It will not pass the white glove inspection... But it has surpassed my expectations for a $700 tactical rifle.
Hopefully a good cleaning and inspection of the trigger group and even check the firing pin channel on your bolt carrier group will solve this.

Chl class for me and wife=$225. Chl application fees =$280. Chl gear for 2=more $ the previous. Moving from sheep to sheepdog = priceless

Fixed!
FIXED! YEA!
I called Bushmaster this morning and discussed the issue with the rep. He thought it would be a good idea to field strip it to see if there is anything obviously wrong, and clean/oil everything.
Pulled the upper apart and when I got to the lower, I noticed the trigger pivot pin had partially backed out . There are circular grooves (or notches) near the pin ends for two spring legs to sit in and keep the pin in place and apparently the spring legs were not sitting fully in the grove when the trigger assembly was built.
Cleaned, generously oiled the bits and pieces, put it back together and then shot about 35 rounds through it - she worked flawlessly.

Re: FTFs, double taps with my brand new Bushy .308
Thanks for the tip! Somebody else recommended the same mod.
I've put probably another 100 rounds through the Bushmaster with no trigger issues . I've had some FTEs, but that turned out to be me not keeping the butt stock firmly tucked into my shoulder. Then I was sighting it in at the range and I was getting close and then had to keep adjusting windage and elevation and discovered (AGAIN) the scope ring clamp on the rail loosened up so I messed up my sighting. At that point I was completely frustrated, my shoulder hurt and I called it a day.
I unscrewed the rail clamp nuts, put some blue threadlocker on the threads and firmly torqued it down, we'll see what happens.

The vibration alone on an AR platform in .308 is significant enough to shake lots of things loose. Blue Loctite should solve your problem if it is just causing the screw to back out.johncanfield wrote: I unscrewed the rail clamp nuts, put some blue threadlocker on the threads and firmly torqued it down, we'll see what happens.

Hoping so Keith! My shoulder is about recovered so I think I'll take it to the range tomorrow and throw some more lead at the paper and see what happens.
