Just picked this up in a trade. What do yall think?

Just picked up this Para Hi-Cap (14+1) today in a trade.

Its only available to vets and from what research I have done, it is pretty much a tactical but high cap. Has tritium night sights, the whole nine.

That is a gun the Div HQ had done for our 2006-2008 deployment to Iraq.

Hate to see one of our Soldiers had to / Choose to sell / trade it. But priorities change as we grow.

Many units do this for a deployment as a commemorative . I have several over the years.. one is my EDC.

If you would not mind, could you PM me the name of the Soldier that sold it to you.

As to availability.. Well, when we ordered them, it was available to anyone who knew we were placing the order and wanted it, had the funds and could legally own a firearm.

Different company's do the commemorative runs differently. Most make the group pick a single gun model, cal, color, and art work. Then set a price per gun for the commemorative unit. It's a special run... and as far as I know, I've not heard or seen a second production run.. .. so ya it's limited in that sense, but reality is, if you have a group of folks,with money to spend, you can have a run of your own made.

We did an M4 from Colt that deployment as well if I remember right.

Worth... hard to say.... It was several hundred less then that new ($850 if I remember right) .... not to be a smartie....But like anything else it's worth what someone will pay for it.

If I had cash this time of year i'd make you an offer...

It's a nice gun for sure... you did well.

Thanks for the consideration on the previous owner..... they are often sold after the new wears off or priorities shift.. My Sons will get mine

Well heck, my single stack 5" Springfield weighs 40 oz, so that's not too bad........of course add in 15 rounds of 230 grain ammo, versus 9 rounds of the same, and the difference has to be more pronounced. How does yours carry?

It is not significantly fatter than the single stack. I dont have the largest hands in the world but by far they are not small and this fits me very well.

Also, I measured it at 43 oz but my scale might have been off, and yes, the extra 7 add some weight.

As far as carrying goes, I have not even holstered it yet, I am debating on keeping this thing and want to keep wear to a minimum.

Yea, I wasn't able to find a lot of information on it and what I saw quoted it to be worth roughly $1200. I know they were purchased at around $850 but I assumed it was a discounted price offered to vets.

I have the identical model in stainless without the custom cosmetics.

The High-cap Nite-Tac model (with rail) was discontinued in 2008, IIRC. I paid $1100-$1150 plus tax BNIB for mine, and was looking at completed Gunbroker auctions over the weekend where they seem to go for about $850 if in fine condition.

I believe they are 43 oz if you include the empty magazine weight.

When I have carried mine with 2 spare mags and 43 rounds of .45 ACP, let's just say I am grateful for a quality gunbelt.

My Para Ordnance is by far and away the most accurate handgun I own. It's groups are half the size of my Springfield Armory 1911.

Para did a number of special runs for various services and law enforcement agencies. I'm not sure how much they charged for the example in this thread, but if it was anything like the Border Patrol guns, it was around 700-750 per gun.

I managed to acquire an example of said Border Patrol Paras - in .40 S&W - a few years ago, and except for the finish, it seems to be a rather good pistol. Slide-to-barrel lockup is nice and tight, the trigger runs around 3.5 lbs, it's reliable even with the short and stubby cartridge, and it's more accurate than I am. However, the finish, the "paint" if you will is wearing off the high points on the frame quite easily.

Oh, and the .40 version will hold 16+1. No need for a reload most days.
