Current Costs Involved For CHL
So, what's the "out-the-door" costs of getting a CHL (removing guns and ammo out of the equation)? Is it just the cost of the class, or is there a line of folks waiting for a piece of the pie?

Unless you're military, indigent and/or old and feeble, you should think in the neighborhood of 3 small.Robert*PPS wrote:So, what's the "out-the-door" costs of getting a CHL (removing guns and ammo out of the equation)? I got my CHL within one year of separating from active duty and didn't pay a state fee. I think, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, that the $70 cost is for veterans. Have to send in a copy of your DD-214 showing you are a veteran.USA1 wrote:Class- $69 (CHLNOW.COM)

The cost of the class is the only thing that varies. Don't know where you are but there's a great instructor in Amarillo whose classes are only $50. The other state fees are as USA1 said.

Throw in the cost of a box of ammo - 50 rounds required to get through the course.
And a holster & good belt, if you're planning on actually *carrying* - although this part isn't technically required to get your plastic, of course.

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

Re: Current Costs Involved For CHL
Ummm, how many instructors charge $69 for a 10 hour class, with photos, in your 'hood? I suspect class cost is more like a c-note, or more, across the state. Er, uh...you'll need some bullets, too.
It's gonna' run close to, if not more than, three small before all is said and done. Of course, there are always exceptions.... You could swap fuel costs for class costs and/or bring lunch and/or sleep in your car, etc?
The good news is: whatever the cost, once divided by five, it ain't all that much, per year, in the long run. Go for it, the life you save....may be mine.

Re: Current Costs Involved For CHL
All in cost for a Texas CHL is probably $200 to $300 for most people. You can get a license from a few other states for about half that.

Bullets? If there are no bullets to purchase and reloads aren't allowed, how can there be Texas CHL classes?

Re: Current Costs Involved For CHL
The class I'm taking is $50 plus $2 for the range. It's pastor/ DPS officer putting the class on. He say's he'll get more people to take the class at his price. He's also doing free classes for teachers and school officials, which I think is very nice.
