Day 1 with my CHL
Yesterday I strapped up for the first time and headed out for a busy day with the Mrs.
I'm carrying a Glock 19 in a Crossbreed Super Tuck. Full disclosure, I carried without 1 in the chamber. I will get there, but I just wanted to get comfortable first. My holster was positioned at "5:00 o'clock". Looked invisible to me and the mrs.
First stop, Academy to look for some 9mm & 22 ammo. No luck
Next stop, the Arms Room, the Mrs. Is taking her CHL class today (Saturday) with Tom Estep and wanted to practice.
Next stop, lunch at Kelly's Country Kitchen....just too much food. Full disclosure again, grilled chicken salad...trying to drop some LBS....
Next stop, Ikea Houston. I was a little apprehensive here because I read on Texas3006 that they had a 30-06 sign at their Round Rock location. I looked all over the front of the building and all I could find we're a "guns prohibited" sign. That was a pretty good test of concealment, because I had to do some reaching, twisting, squatting, and lifting. I probably let my concealment slip as I was loading the truck, because that area of the parking lot was empty and I was struggling with the boxes trying to get the tailgate closed.
Overall, no issues. What I struggled with was my wallet. I've been carrying it in my right rear pocket for 30 years. Since I'm right handed and that is where the Gock is parked, I moved it to my "left cheek". It felt like some strange growth on my butt
Gonna do my Wally walk today with some summer attire as its supposed to be a little warmer. If you catch the news about an Alvin Walmart employee nabbing a suspected terrorist, it's prolly me.

I had the same issueWodathunkit wrote:What I struggled with was my wallet. I've been carrying it in my right rear pocket for 30 years.
but just about 2 months ago (almost 2 1/2 years after I started carrying) my sciatica(sp) was messed up and I had to move my wallet to my left side.
Now I carry there all the time, and it has become normal.

You should always carry a front wallet. Carrying in the back is bad for your health

Re: Day 1 with my CHL
Congrats on getting your license!
As you and others have done, I switched my wallet from back to front pocket... and actually got a smaller wallet -and got rid of some stuff- for when I am wearing jeans (it was too bulky). It wasn't too bad to get used to it, except for the times I was pocket-carrying a BG380... now I only carry IWB @ 5 o'clock.
Now, the part I am really disappointed is the "grilled chicken salad" What next? Tofu and seaweed? yeah, I know, I am too still trying to stick to my New Year's resolution of losing weight...

Re: Day 1 with my CHL
Wallet in rear pocket messed my back up. Went to a chiropractor several years ago, and the wallet issue was a big epiphany. Smaller, money clip with partial wallet in the front pocket ever since. No chiropractor either.
Coach sells a nice one - pricey but it lasts for a longtime. Made of bison hide.
Like who needs to carry 10 credit cards, receipts from 2 years ago, pictures of your extended family, etc.?

I have a coach money clip as well! 2+ years still looks new. I received a nice fossil bifold wallet for Christmas though so I'm giving that some pocket time right nowStripes Dude wrote:

Re: Day 1 with my CHL
hemp wallets? no kidding... they don't need to stinkin' wallets...
- they have no ID's - otherwise they wouldn't object to showing one when voting
- no CHL's either - "oh why, who needs to carry a gun? here, carry a flower instead"
- no money, or credit cards - hard working taxpayers pay their bills
- no health insurance cards - same as above

Re: Day 1 with my CHL
After having to go the my Mother-in-laws business one night to check the lot for robbers, I realized something real fast. I'll be carrying my phone in my left rear pocket. I'm right handed and if I have to pull my gun on someone, I need to get my cell phone out and call the correct people. I normally carry my phone in my right rear.

Glad I am not the only one that didn't carry with one in the pipe the first day. Of course now I don't even think about it, but good for you for taking the time to get through the class. Trying to get my wife to do the same!
I don't carry my 40 all the time, just when I leave my home!

Pssst....here's a secret. Orvis has a bison wallet for about $50 less than the Coach wallet.

Re: Day 1 with my CHL
I switched my wallet carry to the left side after taking my CHL class. My instructor brought it up - going for your wallet in a store could be embarassing if you sweep away any cover garments to accidentally expose your weapon, and it could be really uncomfortable with LEO encounters. The new position becomes natural after a while.
And congrats on getting your plastic!
