I don't blame the guys for checking paperwork but calling the cops over their ignorance is crazy.
I like their range and have shot there several times without incident but it does seem some of their guys have chips on their shoulders.

Anyone can ask to see your paperwork but you are obligated to show it to only the BATF. Having the tax stamp is a defense to prosecution, showing it may preclude you getting to that point.

Not just BATFE. It's illegal to have one under Texas law unless you have the paperwork. Any Texas LEO has the right to ask for the paperwork.TScottTX wrote:Anyone can ask to see your paperwork but you are obligated to show it to only the BATF. Of course they aren't going to run NICS checks on everyone using their range but if they think you are have brought an illegal device into their range I can understand his concern. Same as if he thought you had a stolen gun. I have a Form 4 pending and I plan to always ask before shooting my suppresor at a range. In the end its a privately owned property and like OldCannon stated it's a courtesy issue.alvins wrote:well if its such a big deal why arent they checking everyone who comes in the door to see if they are legally able to posses a hand gun.I bet if they did check lots of felons are going o gun ranges.

I'd post the name and experience at the range to every gun forum possible.
Also - 5 cops is pretty excessive IMO for an agency that can't fill most of its vacancies fast enough.

Did something get deleted? He went to the range and shot using his legally owned suppressor which I support and yes the range was within their rights. With that said I also feel the range also has a duty to be aware of the ever changing laws just as we as CHL holders do.OldCannon wrote: I'm sorry, but the RO and the range owner were completely within their rights to ask. Frankly, I'm stunned that others are voicing support for what you did. This is courtesy 101.

i have no problem showing an officer my paper work. My main issues was him giving me some bull excuse that he had to see it because they would lose their license. and the guy was a major jerk about it. I have asked at other ranges if i could use my supressor- at texas city they could seem to care less, the guy at best shot range in friendswood acted like i was wasting him time for asking. i have never had anyone care about it. MOST people either ignore it or come up and ask to try a couple rounds.ive even had police officers at texas city ask to shoot it.
