I saw a blip that was talking about guns, first time buyers and gun ranges. It's supposed to be on tonight at 10 on channel 11.

An interesting piece. I am uploading a video of it now and will update once I get it.

nice to see a range offering basic fire arms safety.... firearms safety is my #1 concern with all the new first time purchases .. I helped with a couple of CHL classes... that was a little harrowing with the level of incompetence in basic fire arms safety and handling....

Yes, but this is my range I frequent. I'll never be able to get a lane now. :reddevil Guess I'd rather have people safe though....

I wonder how much their "free" class actually costs. Range fee, gun rental, ammo that must be purchased from them?

Don't know the answer - just speculating.

My guess is that only the instructors time is free. I'll ask as I am sure I'll be up there at some point this weekend.

Even if it's just the instructor's time that is free- it get more people shooting and handling guns safely- it's a win-win for all of us. At minimum, someone is doing this at a reduced rate... which is pretty cool of them. (I don't think it matters if it's the range owner or instructor) It's a smart move and good business at the same time. If I lived up that way, I would support that range. The story made it sound like it was for the people already buying guns so I'd guess most are buying ammo anyway and just rent the lane.

:hurry: Went to shoot this evening - the freebie is about an hour in the classroom. No range time or instruction on physical shooting practices. But hey, safe is safe and the range is driving in business.

The wife and I were at a range in December when a young lady took the lane next to us. I observed her first 7 shots and promptly told the wife it was time to leave. My wife asked why and I pointed to the next lane.

The woman shook like Barney Fife and wasn't coming anywhere near hitting the target at 9ft. It took me a few shots to realize the rounds were hitting the ground several feet in front of the target.

My wife simply couldn't resist. She walked up after the lady cleared her firearm and said "let's go talk". Good thing as the lady was in tears. Never did ask as the wife about the conversation. The wife did say that the woman promised to work with a trainer before shooting on her own again. That promise may well save a life.

For new shooters training is very important. Glad to hear there are those who are willing to donate their time to this endeavor.

That is scary! Glad your wife was able to go talk with the newbie.
