Anything that's going to be used more than once, well made for sure (not just US -- Japan, etc). Some of those tools you'll only use once or twice, I go to harbor freight for.

I work for a very large manufacturing company and we do not allow Chinese tools at my facility.

I break snapon stuff alot too. for whats its worth not all of the import tools are bad. some of the harbor sockets are not bad at all, some of it awful. When using the larger stuff 1 1/2" sockets and up most of it is pretty good. just look at the size of the walls.
the welders they sale are total junk.

Except no one in the USA makes Witworth sockets and wrenchesAndyC wrote:I broke a socket trying to get a bolt off my car to replace the rear shock-absorbers this morning; had to put the wheel back on again and trot up to AutoZone to get a decent, Made in USA socket. It cranked that puppy right off like nobody's business and the shocks are riding well.
Lesson learned - buy USA the first time!

The current POTUS is a Chinese Tool. If only he wasn't so expensive.

I've had very good luck with Husky tools from Home Depot.

Re: Cheap Chinese tools
I've broken plenty of Snap On, Matco, Cornwell, Sears, Lowes and off brand...
The most important factors for me are the close tolerances used on wrenches and sockets and the teeth count on the ratchets and screwdrivers. I used to use Telmoser ?sp? which you can't find anymore. They were Chinese and had some of the closest tolerances I have ever found. better than Snap On and a fraction of the cost.
Snap On ratchets have the highest teeth count I have found.

Not sure where Sears Craftsman tools are made, but I have never had a problem getting a free replacement when I broke one. Thats good enough for me!

Re: Cheap Chinese tools
I keep a roll of tools on my motorcycle on the lower downtubes.
I was riding on I-35 through Dallas one evening when I ran over something in the road. It turns out my straps on my tool bag had broken, and I ran over my tools.
It had been filled with Snap-on and Craftsman tools! That was an expensive speed bump!
Now the tool bag is filled with Harbor Freight Chi-Com tools!

Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.
Re: Cheap Chinese tools
I'm a believer in Snap On tools but I have broken quite a few of them.
