Fresh CHL Application - Photos and Prints, ruh roh.

#1

Post by exi »

Well, as a reader of GlockTalk and Packing.org, I finally found my way here. Glad I did. :)

I recently sent in my app (which was received on Sept. 14th). Now, after reading through a few things here and elsewhere, I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to get delayed for one of a couple of things:
  • On one of the four-finger prints on my DPS card, there's some light (not smudged, just light) impressions, not sure if that'll get kicked back, and;
  • On the passport photos, the one that was signed by the official was clipped to my app, and the other was placed in its photo holder; however, I do not believe I signed either of them - and someone in the time to receipt sticky was saying that this was a problem for him although I did not see mention of this in the instructions sheet I had with the app.
Now, I went through that application about four times for completeness over a few months (I originally took the course some time before turning 21) to make sure I didn't miss anything, so naturally, I'll be a bit peeved if it turns out I screwed something up, anyway. I'd really rather not end up getting delayed, so I figured I'd ask and put an end to the paranoia. :)

Welcome to the Forum. :D

If you didn't sign the back of the pics then you'll get them back in the mail to sign.
You wouldn't be the first.

I didn't sign one of my fingerprint cards and it held up the show quite a bit. But, even though it seems like it takes forever, time goes by pretty quickly.

I don't know what is available in your area but this kind of a problem is the reason I always encourage folks to go to a class that "does it all". They are long classes. Start early in the morning, usually by 8:00 am, & finish qualifying late. Sometimes barely enough light to see. Some will have the class & have to qualify on another date. Others two evening classes then qualify on Sat. They are still the best deal for folks like me who look at all that paper & no matter how long & how many times I go over it, I still miss something. Also I have heard of DPS going through apps & finding something like you said, STOPPING THEIR REVIEW THERE, sending it back to you, when they receive it again then finding something else wrong & sending it back again. Won't help this time & I am not trying to get you to shut the gate after the cows are already out. It may help though when you go to renew. If I do something once every 5 years that is not enough practice for me to get it right. Welcome. This way better than Packing & has GT beat hands down. (my opinion guys)

Actually, I was at a "does it all" class, and as I said in the email I just sent off to Austin, I don't believe he said anything about signing the backs of those, nor did I see any notice of doing so on the general instruction form that they stuff in with the rest of the application. I mean, everything else ought to be fine - one signed by official, other properly placed in signed passport photo holder, actual app / TR-100 / so forth should be okay - so ... well, I don't know, I suppose we'll see.

I love it when you fine-tooth comb things and still miss something.

I'm pretty sure it mentions it somewhere deep in the app. If you didn't sign it you will almost certainly get it back. Seems to happen pretty frequently.

Yes & I did miss that. I really hope you do not have a big hassel over it. I am so used to the guy I go to. He has done it so many times & is so organized. Hope you get it back soon.

Welcome to the Fingerpring Kickback Club, and the forum. My class was "all inclusive" and I don't recall being told to sign the photos.

It didn't delay the process much longer. It does seem like it takes foreever. Soon enough you will be checking the mailbox and DPS status web site on and hourly basis.

We seem to be very lucky in my area. My instructor was a city cop who competes in pistol matches, and I went to the police station to get my fingerprints. The cop that took my prints was just as interested in getting everything right as I was, and knew what was necessary.

Well, that's fun, "When we get your signed photos back in the mail, that will begin the application process and the 60 days" or similar in an email.

I hate delays. Whoops.

Yup, sure enough, got it back today.

At least they're going through things reasonably fast.

I think it's sad that we consider two weeks to notice an error in your application 'reasonably fast'! The only time we would refer to a two week processing lag as 'fast' is in the gov sector!

I should apply for a credit card with an error and see how long it takes for Capital One to send me back my app! I bet that if I have good credit, I'll have the app back within 3 days!
