Bad News
Chl class 1/27
Mailed packet 2-21
Informed I had to wait to schedule fingerprints
Fingerprinted 4-16
And I got an email today after asking if I could expect my chl soon and they said July. So it's gonna take 5 months. And the waiting is gettin to me now. Sad day.

Re: Bad News
Sorry to hear that. Why did you have to wait?

Re: Bad News
They didn't officially update my info until 4/13. I guess that's what I get for using snail mail.

Re: Bad News
I still don't understand why you had to wait. Did you snail-mail the CHL application? If you filed the app online, you could have been fingerprinted immediately, even before taking the CHL class.Buffporkster wrote:They didn't officially update my info until 4/13. Armed not dangerous but potentially lethal.

Re: Bad News
I didn't. My instructor gave us the packet and told us to mail it with passport photos and a check then wait. I was unaware I could do the app online. Ignorance on my part.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you had such an uniformed instructor.

Re: Bad News
Im in the same boat, our CHL instructor said nothing about doing a online app, he just said mail off the app and everything else. He said should take 10 days for DPS to process it and send you a letter to get your fingerprints done. 55 days now and counting and zero updates.Buffporkster wrote:I didn't. Re: Bad News
My original instructors website instructed students to apply online before booking a class. Guess I lucked out.

Re: Bad News
Definitely error on the part of the instructor. Someone needs to give HIM some instruction. So sorry for your long wait!

Re: Bad News
I think the online option is relatively new. Honestly, I was about to do everything snail mail until I found this forum. I also did not know I had to apply before getting prints done. I took the class, had to
Wait a week or two for fundage/payday to apply then, another 3
weeks for fingerprinting. Wait, wait, wait.
My advise, Defiantly, apply online and schedule fingerprints before your class.

Re: Bad News
DPS is not updating instructors. If they are not on this forum, or actively pursuing updates on their own, then they will not knowSongbird wrote:Definitely error on the part of the instructor. Someone needs to give HIM some instruction. So sorry for your long wait!
Unfortunately, CHL students don't know what they don't know until they take the class. So, if you take it from an instructor with outdated info, you get outdated info.
It pays to do some research.

Re: Bad News
My instructor told us nothing about the process in my class. Fortunately I'm the type of person who researches everything I can before I do something like this. I Googled the process of obtaining a Texas CHL and found a website that walks you through it step by step. It was also how I discovered this wonderful forum. I've learned more here than anywhere else. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone on here for their advice, experiences, etc.
