I am a Christian to my friend as much as I do believe in God and his protection, he does say you have to help yourself. In that case its my duty to protect my family and myself.Dragonfighter wrote:I went to lunch one day with a guy I knew in church and his (then) fiance'. The subject of guns came up and he steadfastly insisted that there was no reason for a Christian to arm themselves or ever engage in violence. I asked him point blank, "So if someone breaks in to your home and proceeds to rape (name withheld) then you would not act? You would standby and let it happen?" He did not answer and she looked shocked, hurt and disgusted. I don't know how their conversation went after that but they eventually married and still are some 20 years later.
If I had taken that tack, my wife would have left and never looked back and I might or might not have been wearing lunch.
