Texas State Fair and CHL

#1

Post by chadster1 »

Me and my wife went to the Texas State Fair today (opening weekend). They were using the metal detector wand on people standing in line. I showed my CHL to the security person, she escorted me to the front gate where the gate people called someone from management. Someone from management showed up in about 5 minutes, he wrote down all the info from my CHL on a form and then we were let in with no problem.

While we were waiting We had a nice conversation with an approximately 60 year old lady with the "gate crew". She told me she had just renewed her CHL recently. She also told my wife that she needed to get her CHL as well. The security person working the wand had a totally different attitude and tried to make it seem like I would have a long wait. All in all, they seemed to have their act together and they were prepared to deal with CHL holders coming to the fair.

I do wonder why they need to log the info of CHL holders who enter the fair but I was in no mood to waste my time questioning that.

With this being the beginning of year #3 for them being foced to let CHL holders carry, it's about time they have their act together better. It's not inside the fair so much that is of concern, but the parking and walking situations outside, particularly after dark.

To each his own, but I've been there so many times over the years that, under the circumstances, it's become one of the places I don't really see "need to go" anymore ...

why do they need all the information from your CHL? Who keeps this info and what is done with it?

Thats what is concerning me...Who sees it, how is it used and or stored...And is there verification that it will be destroyed after the Fair is over...

I'd like to go to the Fair again sometime, but not if they are going to "gather" information like this on you...They don't need to know anything but that a commissioned Law Enforcement Officer has viewed your license, so you can bypass the detectors...

They should not be allowed to gather anything on you...

Thats it, nothing more, nothing less...
