i cant remember when i got arrested or find records!

I got arrested probably 10 years ago on a theft charge.

A buddy (area judge) said he could get rid of it if i took a theft class.
I took the class and let it go.

Now I want to apply for my CHL, but I figured I should put the arrest on the application since the DPS will probably see the arrest.
I called the County Clerks office and they have no records in my name ever.

So I did get a certified sealed letter showing a clean criminal check from them, however, no one can tell me when I got arrested since there is no evidence! and I cant remember!

Should I just not worry and not put it on the application at all?
Or should I estimate? (I wouldnt think so, since I am not even sure of the year)

I just don't wanna take the wrong path. PLEASE HELP!

Even if you are not sure of the city, if you know the county, you can send a records request (or call possibly) the county clerk for info.
There may be other ways, but none that I know, sorry.

You need to list it on the application with an estimated date/year. Include a copy of the letter from the court clerk stating they have no record of it. That way if something DOES show up in the DPS background check you were at least forthcoming with the disclosure. If DPS sees nothing in their background check and have the letter from the court stating the same thing, then it will be no issue.

I have a private public data account. If you pm me your full name dob I can check your criminal history. Not as accurate as a true DPS history, but they usually are good. I realize sending that sounds like a ID theft scam, but it's not.

I had a very similar problem, I was arrested in the early 90's and actually spent the night in jail for a traffic ticket turned warrant. When I went to send in my CHL application, I was worried that it would cause problems, because I could not remember specific year or date. I went to the local courthouse and tried to retrieve my records, but they had none on file so, I then went to the local police station and got a certified records of arrest, that stated there were no records of any arrest.

Just to safe and completely honest on my application. I sent the records of arrest, and a typed letter stating what had happened to the best of my recollection, and that I tried to get those documents but they were not available and there was no history of arrest or the incident.

Forty days later I had my CHL. No issues whatsoever.

I've never been arrested but I can tell you the day, month, and year (28 years ago) when I received my only speeding ticket (deserved many more but have been very lucky). I can't imagine not remembering such details if I had been arrested. I'm sure every detail of the experience would have been engraved in my memory.

UPDATE: I got ahold of the county sheriffs office, and they were able to tell me the info on my arrest.

What actually happened:
Arrested for alleged theft and MIP
Released on Bail
Dismissed, no charges, paid fine for MIP

Whats actually on record:
County Clerk: Nothing
County Attorney: Nothing
Texas DPS: Nothing
County Sheriff: Arrested for MIP, No warrant, Released on bail, Paid fine.

So, I did complete my CHL application and list it with the information recieved from the sheriffs office.

Question: Do I need to fill out a CHL-78c form? I assume ys, and just include info on the MIP?
I do have a certified letter (fax copy) stating no criminal records in the county which I can send with my paperwork

NOTE: The theft would have been Class B, however the MIP is only Class C (if that matters)

They took my watch with the date on it when they booked me.

also, I was more worried about Bubba and watching my back than the date!

Never had even a ticket since. Only arrest, and only because I chose to hang out with the wrong people (still my own fault, and a learning experience regardless).
The date isn't important to me though as it isn't anything I celebrate annually.

Holy cow... I was only 18 months old and you were already boozing it up. So tell me, how do you handle the whole drinking while carrying thing?
