Eating a burger with soy sauce on it is like eating a fried tofu burger.

I agree. We visited Hopdoddy while in Austin back in March and it was delicious!bauer wrote:Ill add one to the this list and probably the best burger(s) I've had anywhere in the country.Redneck_Buddha wrote:Austin is burger heaven.

I will also recommend Tookie's. It's our family favorite (3 generations of local Tookie lovers). Squealer is my favorite. Love the rings. Wife and FIL get their fries extra crispy.Teamless wrote:Stomps should be good and compared to Tookies as after Hurricane Ike, while Tookies was shutdown, before it was decided to reopen, I hear there were a few from Tookies that opened Stomps.anygunanywhere wrote:Post by anygunanywhere » Tue Aug 06, 2013 10:58 am

Stomps in Bacliff.
I have never been to Stomps personally, I would suppose they are close to the same as Tookies, which means DARN GOOD!
Thanks for mentioning Stomps. Never heard of it before. I'll give it a shot. We don't usually head that far South on 146. I have much love for an excellent burger. We'll go check it out.
I knew a Shasta in high school. Not a common name I suppose.Shasta wrote:
I also enjoy a Beck's Prime burger over on Westheimer and Augusta under the big oaks on occasion. Don't get over there much anymore. Pretty pricey and I don't work close by as often.

Not much mentioned from Houston yet. In no particular order, and not necessarily all that I know...

Beck's Prime
Christian's
Lankford Grocery
Mittelstaedt's (the bar/restaurant/farm stand on Stuebner Airline)
Jax Burgers, Fries, & Shakes (not to be confused with Jax Grill, which used to be good...)

Also, someone else mentioned Burger House. They are pretty good. There are more than one in Houston, not just the one on Hwy 3 at Ellington Field.

1. Mixed Up Burgers in Grand Prairie
2. Johnny B's in Southlake
3. Chris Madrid's in San Antonio
4. Ruddock's Grocery in Guadalupe (On 87 between Port Lavaca and Victoria). I dunno if they still do burgers, but when they did they are spectacular. Hopefully they are still open.

Joe Lee's South Shore burger in Kemah gets my vote. Old school style burger. Millers Cafe in Clear Lake is also quite good.

Had forgot about them. Not bad burger at all. Didn't Elvis used to go there for cheese burgers when he was Stationed at Fort. Hood? They also have a location in Burnet. Can not even count the number of Saturday nights I hit that place in the late 80's.eureka40 wrote:Storm's in Lampasas is a great place for burgers.

I don't get out that way much (I grew up near Hobby) these days. There seem to be 4 Burger Houses around SE Houston.xb12s wrote:Oh yeah, forgot about the Bellaire Broiler and Jax.brhalltx wrote:Not much mentioned from Houston yet. In no particular order, and not necessarily all that I know...

For those of you around Baytown (maybe east of Baytown), there was a burger place in a gas station (Shell, Chevron, or maybe Exxon) right off of I-10 that was pretty good. Anybody know what it is/was?

Mel's Country Cafe in Tomball is excellent. Red Robin is pretty good for a chain/franchise type place.

I've never had a burger at Mel's... The last time or two we tried to go there, the line was out the door.SpringerFan wrote:Mel's Country Cafe in Tomball is excellent. Red Robin is pretty good for a chain/franchise type place.
The very-coarse-hair-in-the-iced-tea at Red Robin pretty much ended the trips there. I even have/had an unused $50 gift card for Red Robin...
