Big problem here is people "explaining" things they have no direct knowledge of in the first place. Instead of taking someone at their word on a legal issue you should look it up yourself. The language in the law is very clear on this issue. Nothing in there about renters or squatters or whatever. Govt owned is all that matters. As far as the school activity goes, the language does suck but the intent was school events like games and such. As others have stated the schools can show up anywhere without you knowing.

This is just like the folks that run or used to run the Texas State Fair. They used to think that because it was operated by someone other than the city and security was also farmed out to yet another group that they could do whatever they wanted. Whether or not they truly think otherwise any more I don't know, but they have changed their policy and I'll be testing it out tomorrow.
One other thing about the fair. They always tell you that the Cotton Bowl is off limits. I e-mailed them to point out their mistake that it is not always off limits and was told that they don't offer tours of the Cotton Bowl and that the only time the general public is allowed in the Cotton Bowl is when a game is going on. When explained like that it makes sense why they say that. However, you'd think they would know if there is a game on a particular day or not.

eh, they looked at me pretty good when we went a few weeks ago too, and I made it a point NOT to look at the door too hard. If you go in and out through the garage door you're OK. Been doing it for years and years.

We parked in the garage, entered through the gift shop, and didn't see anything resembling a 30.06 sign. A good day was had by all.

FYI, if you go to the HMNS at SugarLand they have an old notification (29ee) posted. I ignored it and went in without incident.

Re: Houston Museum of Natural Science
Sorry to bring this post back from the dead, but my question is relevant I believe. I'm a little confused about what someone had mentioned about being around school groups. I helped organize a field trip for homeschool kids where I live in Huntsville to go to HMNS, and I will be going with them later this week. Can I conceal carry on the trip?

typically when a homeschool group goes on a field-trip each family goes, you just acted as a coordinator, when you go on the trip you are a family going to the museum, you are not a school, unless there is a discount, then you are a private school (your family school) and you still get to decide on your own policies, and your rules are that all teachers must carry and can't tell anyone
Does that make sense?

It does. We did receive the discount. And none of the kids are mine. I'm a Biology student at SHSU, and I know a lot of home school families here. I thought this would be a good way to get kids more interested in math and science. That having been said, my status is more: don't ask, don't tell? Or our policy is that coordinators / teachers are authorized to carry?

I would also say "don't ask, don't tell" would be correct

As I replied to in texas3006.com, there are no signs anywhere. I used the 3 exits (fountain, shop, and globe). I didn't see any signs. Carry on.

Re: Houston Museum of Natural Science
Sorry to resurrect such an old thread. I just wanted to add some new info.
I was just at the museum last weekend.
There are 30.06 signs on ALL doors leading into the museum. However, the text is way too small. Also, I confirmed through HCAD (Harris County Appraisal District) the museum is in fact owned by the city, so even if it were the correct sign, it would still be invalid.

Re: Houston Museum of Natural Science
My wife and son took me there today to see the IMAX D-Day movie (don't bother) for Father's Day. We parked in the parking garage. As noted elsewhere, no signs between the garage and the museum. We were running tight on the movie start time so went right in to buy tickets. On the way out, I did notice Gun Buster signs on the glass coming in from the street. While I did see a reference to 30.06, I cannot verify if it was the current wording. The letters were very small (certainly much smaller than required), reading backwards through the glass, and on the way to dinner, I didn't take time to check exact wording.
