I'm not talking about the NRA's database, or any other that some private organization has developed.

So, you aren't taking about the topic of this thread?bdickens wrote:I'm not talking about the NRA's database, or any other that some private organization has developed.
You still attributed words to me that I did not say.

Re: So they say the NRA has a database on all gun owners
Tin foil hats & black helicopters aside. The point of this thread was to discuss the supposed outrage that we should be venting toward the NRA for maintaining membership records.
The article erroneously tries to draw comparisons of the NRA membership info to the NSA's monitoring of private communications without any sort of public oversight or due process. Not only does the article fail in its initial premise; it falls painfully short on objectivity, reasonable conclusion, and factual content.
What the article does do is give us the heads up that April's victory in the US Congress didn't win the war. The direct approach didn't work. So now they're trying to turn us against our most powerful ally. And they'll resort to any depth of immorality to achieve their goal.

So this is the first thread on TexasCHLforum.com that has ever veered off-topic?

Exactly. If you're paranoid about data being collected these days, you need to get off this forum (the internet) and go live in a cave... There is so much data on each one of us out there it'd boggle your mind.
I don't like it, but it's just the reality of the digital world.

The NRA sends me snail mail asking for money
I send my monthly contribution to the NRA by money order and snail mail
If they send me mail than they must have contact info on me
They never ask me what kind of guns I have or how many
an old .38

I'm not all that concerned with a private organization, whether it is the NRA, Bed, Bath and Beyond or the local sewing club keeping a database on people who do business with them. Those are all voluntary transactions and you can choose not to participate.
What concerns me is the .gov conducting surveillance on people with no warrant and no probable cause.

On electronic communications, such as those used by private parties to/from their databases. How hard do you think it would be to compile a list if you were watching email from the NRA?bdickens wrote: What concerns me is the .gov conducting surveillance on people with no warrant and no probable cause.
It's another instance of we the people needing to decide if we want to feel safe or if we're willing to give up a little safety in exchange for personal freedoms.

How do you feel about government selling the data they collect about you to private corporations? http://denver.cbslocal.com/2013/08/26/s ... vernments/bdickens wrote:I'm not all that concerned with a private organization, whether it is the NRA, Bed, Bath and Beyond or the local sewing club keeping a database on people who do business with them. Forum rules prevent me from discussing that.
