I applaud your effrots to keep you and your daughter safe. I have an 11 year old that has been shooting since she was 7. There are 4 cardinal firearms safety rules;Just_Me wrote: For the rest of you, thank you so much for your concerns and advice. To put your mind at ease, my daughter always knows where I keep my gun. She does not have any curiousity or desire to handle it. I always tell her where it is and whether or not it is loaded. It has a safety button, as well as a key lock. I think that educating her about it is much safer than trying to hide it. Education demystifies and thwarts unsupervised curiousity.
1. All firearms are always loaded.
2. Never allow the muzzle to cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off of the trigger until on target and ready to fire.
4. Know your target and what is beyond.
I stress # 1 to you. Unloaed guns injure and kill people. You daughter should be taught at ALL guns are ALAWAYS loaded, and she should treat them a such.
