FLASH: Dog bites woman... err...shoots woman!

A dog accidentally knocks over a loaded & cocked shotgun, injuring the owner in the left foot.

She forgives the dog. Police fail to give the breed, age, or name of the dog, insisting "he has the right to remain silent".

That happened to another k9 handler I worked with. His dog was doing an "article" search. The dog was looking for a gun that was tossed by a BG. When he pawed at it, the gun fired, missing the handler. Nothing like having your dog shoot at you

No we used dual purpose dogs being shepherds and now some malnois.... dual purpose being they do the protection/bite work and then a 2nd skill like tracking/articles, dope, bombs, donuts  , ect.... Also dogs have been trained to alert differently vs the old bark and scratch.

When I was 13, I was pheasant hunting in the panhandle with my dad and some of his business cronies. The news one evening ran the headline, "Pheasant Fatally Shoots Hunter". Apparently, the man hat shot the bird down and leaned over his semi-auto shotgun while retrieving the bird. Witnesses said they saw the bird kicking before the shotgun went off. Those investigating surmised the cock's spur or toe caught the trigger and put a hole through his chest.

One of these days I'll share how I shot a rabbit out of self defense on the same trip. Surreal.

There was once a report from West Virginia I think...

Man was hunting and training two new dogs. the dogs alerted...he shot the game. He walked to his kill and knelt down laying his shotgun down next to him. One of the pups was getting excited and jumping around. The pup stepped on the gun and it went off, shooting the man in the leg.

The police were taking a statement about what happened when they asked, for the report, what was the dog's name. The man said, "dog". The officer said, "then what's the OTHER dog's name?" The man said, "dog".
