New York Police said the altercation began when the man called 911 to report the bikers driving erratically on the highway, NBC New York reports.

Don't think this would be a high priority call...well until he started getting beat.

I would say the driver of the RR's actions were spot on...with the exception of staying on the road. Remember in an emergency situation, road rules do not apply. He should have used his 4 wheel advantage to his advantage. (going over curbs and using terrain that wasn't MC friendly) Also, rapid application of the brakes when they were behind them may have helped to take a few more out as well.

As soon as the second stop happened, and the door was pulled open, I would have had to open fire.

This entire situation was ridiculous. If it happen here in Texas, there would have been some shooting...

I also applaud the Range Rover's actions up until it got stuck in traffic. As HotLead said above, the moment he stopped, he was at a major disadvantage.

I would have been on the phone with the cops explaining I will defend myself as needed *hint hint... get here quick* Nothing gets marked cars moving faster than a dispatcher reporting gunshots heard over the phone.

Mobs have zero reasoning, which is exactly why I keep a loaded AR with several magazines ready, as well as a 'go-bag.'

Most biker mobs across the nation (not all) clearly try to intimidate other drivers on the road. I pray that the driver recovers quickly, and that he invests in proper defense for his family soon. I also hope that the bikers involved get criminal charges.

This why I carry, this is why I carry extra ammo!! I'll be honest, every time is see a group of motorcycles I prep my weapon. I think after a few miles I would have been ramming those guys as they got along side of me.

I ride and I think the SUV driver showed remarkable restraint. There were several times he could have done serious damage to several of his attackers if he was more like some people I know.

yea and the rider of the blue and white gsxr that was in the lane beside the RR was yelling at the RR and decided he was going to make the RR stop, he pulled in front of the RR and let off the throttle at a distance that the driver of the RR hit him, so now hmm looks like to be this group of riders was looking for trouble and then the rider that got bumped gets off and starts screaming with spit flying out of his mouth and hitting stuff, yep sure was the RR driver that did the deed and started the problem there.

I not only would have run the bike over like he did but there would have been a buttload of bikes squished all over the rear, sides and front of my vehicle

I have spent a few minutes trying to articulate the passion with which I hate bikers like this; but can't quite capture it. Unfortunately, they are all too ubiquitous up here in DFW. I often have to drive home up 75 in the late evening, and invariably am passed by a group of idiots. In my latest run in, I was passing a semi in the left lane, going quite a bit faster than I should have. Notwithstanding my speed, some guy on a bike with a girl on the back flies between me and the semi going at least 120. I flash him. He slams on the breaks in front of me. I come to a complete stop and then go around him when safe. He catches up and keeps trying to stop me (I make it clear by my lack of brakes that he gets one free pass, but no more). He comes along my side and for a few miles tries to get me to engage him. I ignore him. He then comes real close and starts kicking my car (while we are going 65mph). But for the thought "that gal on the back is somebody's daughter" he would have felt the wrath of my mighty Honda Civic.

First, this was in Manhattan so all thoughts about using a gun to defend yourself are out the window.

Second, the RR driver only ran over the bike after they surrounded him and started beating on his car.

Once he made the decision to flee, he needed to treat every approaching biker as a threat. He chose not to. Without some other means of self-defense available, his vehicle was his only chance. He elected not to use it in that way. It could have gone a lot worse than him being beaten.

This is the anarchy that is NYC. There have been a couple of similar incidents in Dallas. I'm all for bikers and if they want to ride in groups, that is fine, too. They can do stupid tricks and even stop traffic. The line is crossed, however, when there are a lot of them and they decide to take aggressive action toward an uninvolved motorist. I would stop completely and let them pass. If they stopped, too, and started attacking me, I'd assume it to be a lethal threat and act accordingly. That RR could have been a mighty weapon.

I remember seeing a series of photos in the 70's houston either the houston post or houston chronicle of a trucker yjay was being intimidated by a idiot biker on I think a Harley pulled of on 610 and the idiot biker pulled in behind him, trucker got out and walked back to the Idiot and ripped his helmet or hat off and cold cocked him of the bike got back in truck and left .

not all Harley drivers are this stupid but to many old farts that have H>D's are .. They think people are intimidated because they are on a harley >> Marlon Brando id Dead-- and so are MC guys.
