What I've always been told is the ranges don't like head shots because it puts the round too close to the carriage holding the target. Maybe the ranges give instructors grief about it.

Thi story brings back an old memory:

Many years ago, when I was in college, I worked graveyards at a "stop and rob" type store. One night after 2 a.m. this punk comes in. He grabs a case of beer. I tell him that it's after hours and I can't sell it to him. He sets it down and walks out. 5 minutes later, he walks back in with a broken beer bottle. He grabs the beer that he had previously grabbed, waves the broken bottle at me and attempts to open the cash register. I call 911 while he is trying to open the register and he leaves with beer but no money. Cops catch him walking a few blocks away and arrest him.

At the time Concealed carry was not yet legal... Had it been I might have used deadly force when he threatened me with the broken bottle....
:eek6

Oh yeah.... I lived in Corpus Christi at the time...

No, really. They are three points. The entire silhouette outside the 7 ring is three points for CHL. I think your instructor either misunderstood or was applying a personal policy.
Even the military M9 target gives four points for the middle of the head and three for the outside of the head.

Yeah, don't know about military targets, but the CHL, HEAD-shot fail is "CHL urban legend"

And CHL instructors have no right to apply "personal policy" when scoring targets. Or written tests.
Range Rule: "The front gate lock is not an acceptable target."

I've been going to DPS instructor schools from the get go and have never heard any such thing before about head shots being "immediate fail". Altho I do advise students just before their demo of proficiency, not to make any intentional head shots. Since, yes, that does dramatically increase the odds of hitting target carriers.

I shoot center mass when engaging a normal target. I plan on using my vintage Model 41 with a 7" barrel for headshots. Headshots on Zombies are cool and efficient. In the meantime I'll just wait for the next season of The Walking Dead....

Yeah, but 40 of the rounds are at 3 and 7 yards. Even at 15 yards, the head and the carrier are really far apart.

But yeah, from what I have seen in the classes I have been to, most people could use more practice (me included). :mrgreen:

Finding further news on this is tough.

http://www.caller.com/news/2013/oct/02/ ... murder-in/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Court appearance just hours after he was released yesterday although he paid his bail on Sunday. Plans to return to work.

So if they had not released him in time for his court appearance would his bail have been forfeited.

I could not find any thing but this. You have to subscribe to get more. Doubtful if anyone wants to subscribe to a Corpus Christi newspaper.

TV source so they are willing to say more. Shows a photo of the "victim/thief". Does add "some wonder why he was even charged".

Some sources are saying the victim/thief was a known gang member. I will try and track that down more.

Confusion keep our shopkeeper in jail after he payed his bail. He now has an ankle monitor.

Oh it gets better.

http://www.kristv.com/news/brother-spea ... ling-beer/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Victims brother speaks out. I will now not use victim anymore. Our thief just got out of prison after serving 13 years. Brother suggests shooting in the leg, not head, to stop his brother from stealing.

Is Corpus Christi the new Austin?

Thief's family wants justice.

Been in and out of jail three times since being released from prison. Last court appearance was 10 days ago.

So knowing all this, why was the store owner arrested?
