Well, certainly those of the disillusioned/disaffected should move on to greener pastures...

The grass was definitely greener in New Orleans but I have no plans of ever going back to that side of the fence. I'm real happy with my brown grass, thank you very much.

Speaking as someone that's come from a place where citizens are not allowed to own guns for home defense, I think that Texas gun laws are a huge step in the right direction. I've gone from only being able legally permitted to take my pistol (trigger locked and in a locked case, with magazines legally limited to 10 rounds) from my house to the range via the most direct route to being a CHL holder that can legally carry concealed in 36 states.

I won't say that I don't see room for improvement...but I'm not going to get wrapped aroudn the axle about the improvement not happening as fast as I want. I've only been here for a little bit over a year, and I've seen two common-sense improvements happen to the current set of gun laws.

I can see the OPs point to some extent though. Coming from NM where they have constitutional OC, moderate requirements for CC, state preemption, four 600m ranges within 45 of ABQ, and the ability to shoot and hunt on federal BLM land all over the state... coming to Texas was surprising for me... I just had this vision of Texas and firearms in my head that didn't line up exactly with reality.

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed though. I don't have an interest in OC, the CC requirements are also very reasonable here, especially after September, and with family changes recently I don't have as much time or money to spend on hunting or sport shooting anyway.

Unlike the OP, I'm very much happy with my move to Texas.

You make a good case for the low expectations some people have for supposedly pro-gun politicians in Texas. They're still stuck in the Reconstruction mindset until 20 years ago when it was easier to legally carry in New York City than Houston.
