ID for voting

Saw this sign at my polling place today. I find it interesting that a CHL could be used for ID but my weapon had to stay in the pickup.

An I.D. required for voting- what an outrage, wait, perhaps it could help prevent
those ineligible voters from voting, which of course never happens according to liberals.

I had to show a photo ID yesterday ……… exactly as I have been asked to do every time I have voted since moving to Texas in 2006. I don't see what the big deal is for opponents of this.

As far back as I can remember I have had to show a photo ID, always my drivers license. In the future it will be my CHL, forgot to use it this time.

I gave them my Voters Registration Card, TDL, CHL, Passport Card and Passport.

Having worked Texas elections for several years, a variety of things could be used for ID... Not all had a photo attached to it. If you didn't have your Voter registration card, you could be confirmed by presenting a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and address..

Now, Photo ID issued by the state.. (student ID don't cut it..)

I forgot to take my registration card. Driver's license was all they needed. That's actually more convenient for me, since I always have two forms of valid photo ID (DL and CHL) on me, but I only have my registration card if I'm planning on voting and remember to take it with me. It doesn't fit in my wallet and I don't carry a purse.

I used my CHL as voter ID. There is a misspelling on my DL that I have negelected to correct and I did not even think about it until I was at the poll. I pulled out my CHL and used that with no problem at all. I am really glad that that Texas is asking for IDs. It is about time.

You haven't needed a registration card since the poll tax was repealed in the 60's. It's been pretty useless and I have never attempted to use it to vote. Never once. Now it will likely go away. It serves no purpose. Now the new foolishness is that you could cast a provisional ballot without photo ID but you then had to go to the courthouse within 7 days to prove you are who you are. That might be good in Brownwood but not so much in Dallas or Houston. Who has a half day to devote? It's my understanding that there have been a total of 4 cases brought to trial during the past 10 years of someone who committed voter fraud. With all the fuss it seems that the same illegal voters who never voted before have again surprised everyone by not voting again. Even Jim Wright had trouble because the 90 year old guy allowed his drivers license to expire. How dare him! No current ID. Couldn't they take an expired license? Old Jim hasn't changed since it expired and the address on the license isn't an issue. They ask if you have moved. They don't care about what's on the license ID--just that the photo somewhat resembles the holder. Just wait until next November. This is just going to be great fun.

In Orange county yesterday, I presented my CHL as ID. I was told that I needed also my registration card if using CHL.
The lady said that there was information on the DL that was not on CHL. They were using some kind of scanner.
Makes me wonder just what all is stored on the magnetic strip on the back. I was told using DL you need not have yellow card.

You show photo I.D. before you pick up your site to store order at Walmart.com, buy booze, cash a check, open an account, accept employment, etc., etc. Why not show photo I.D. when you vote?

....because doing business with any of those stores is a commercial exercise of freedom of trade. Voting is a constitutionally guaranteed right. If I don't want to do business with Walmart, I can go to, uh, uh, well, I can do business with someone, somewhere.

I was at the right location and had two photo id's. Had to vote provisionally. I just love the government.
