Hark, hear the bells!
Re: Holiday Music! Do you have a favorite?
Yes, however, the non-stop assault of Christmas music on our ears at every venue possible, waaaay before Christmas, has me feeling overly saturated with Christmas music so far in advance of Christmas, that I'm thankful Christmas is finally over...
...and I bet I'm not the only one.
P.S. I used to love Christmas music until the commercialization of it became the norm this time of year.

With the passing of time, the passing of loved ones and any remaining family 700 miles away, Christmas is a day soon over. We haven't put up a tree in 10 years or so. That said, we will attend church this Sunday and enjoy the Christmas Cantata. Come, go with us?

Re: Holiday Music! Do you have a favorite?
I used to work in Center City, Philadelphia and would go on my lunch break to hear the then Wanamaker now Macy's organ. They played Christmas concerts several days a week
The organ itself is magnificent. It is THE largest working pipe organ in the world (the Atlantic City convention hall organ is bigger but has been non-functional for a very long time). Just listening the Keith Chapman play it was a lifetime experience. I more than once stood were I could see the huge console.
And then this happened. As part of the normal noon day Christmas concerts, a large contingent of the Philadelphia Opera company suddenly joined in. Oh, how I wish I could have been there. Messiah! is impressive by itself. When the organ and the opera company perform it, it is just... well... Listen.
If someone will remind me how to fix the imbed, I'll do it

My favorite Christmas song is Carol of the Bells.
This is a pretty decent version by Straight No Chaser (everything they do is a capella):
And a good version of Silent Night by the same group:
And finally...a silly version of the 12 Days of Christmas (this is the video that first went viral for them):

I just ran across this version of "Blue Christmas" by David Thibault, a 16 year old Quebecian. Of course, not as good as Elvis, but worth a listen.Jaguar wrote:Elvis Presley, "Blue Christmas"
My mom wore out that record when my dad was in Vietnam.
I couldn't stand it for years afterwards but after mom passed away it has become my favorite.

I love Mariah Carey's Christmas cd.

Mannheim Steamroller is a favorite of Rush's.
Their music makes me want to scream it's so awful!

I can't believe no one has said this one yet?
Seriously, O' Holy Night is probably my favorite. I have been a guest soloist several times at my In-Law's church Midnight Christmas Eve service. Have sang various songs, but this it the one is I am requested to sing most years.

I have become rather attached to this performance lately. Andrea Bocelli singing "Gloria in Excelsis Deo".
