It's not just the conditions at their homes/offices. I recall a report in one of the gun mags (by Mas Ayoob, maybe?), about an officer in NYPD who showed up for annual qualification, and her revolver was rusted into the holster so firmly she couldn't even draw it. (This was back in the day, when NYPD was exclusively armed with blued .38s.)Venus Pax wrote:You have to wonder what the conditions are in their homes/offices if a gun is able to rust shut.
After some investigating, they found out she'd been assigned traffic duty one day in the rain, directing traffic at a busy intersection. That day, like every other day, she hung her duty belt (revolver and all) in the closet, and put it back on the next day. After several months of flirting, the Red Fuzz and tanic acids hooked up for life.
Don't forget: leather + moisture is every bit as corrosive as sweat. Never store a gun in its holster.
