Really no such thing as affordable anymore. Most are either being leased long term already or out of reach dollar wise, or have no game left on them unless you go a long way out from DFW and even then they are expensive.
You might try Huntsville State Park. They have lottery draws (or used to) for deer hunting.

You need to define affordable.
What's affordable and worthwhile to one will be overly expensive and not worth it to another.
Also, how near to DFW do you want?

Enjoy the drive. I'm looking for a lease, but in OK. As of a few weeks ago there were only 2 that I could find, up by the KS border. 2000/yr limit 2 hunters, July 1 lease start. Look closer to spring to see if anything pops up for this year.

Re: Affordable Deer Lease in North Texas Near DFW
drjoker,
An alternative to a lease is to go with an outfitter that can give you the type of animals that you want. I have had several leases and they are both expensive and a lot of work. They are much nicer in that you can choose the type of animal that you want to shoot (buck, doe, or large trophy) if you can find them but there are drawbacks. Some of these include keeping feeders filled, upkeep of blinds, clearing brush, and keeping stock away from your feeders as well as probably having to furnish feeders, blinds, etc.
Unless you are looking for a trophy buck, you can find an outfitter that will take care of all the above and probably at a less expensive price than a lease.

More of an answer to the original question would be go to the Chamber of Commerce website in the area the you would like to get a lease. A lot of the area Chambers have a list of local hunting leases. I keep the four local county Chambers on my favorites list because I am always looking for what might be a good deal. The lists that I use also have day hunting places listed and I have also used that for an opportunity to hunt.

If you're looking to hunt it by yourself...nightmare wrote:Somewhere in the five figures.drjoker wrote:What's an affordable Deer Lease in North Texas near DFW
If you have a sizeable piece of property with other people you are looking at $2-4,000 per gun. The various Texas hunting forums really are pretty decent places to find a lease.

You can hunt deer on small parcels of land (<50 acres). That's just my definition of small. People successfully hunt deer on small parcels all the time. It just changes your tactics.

Re: Affordable Deer Lease in North Texas Near DFW
Just to give you an idea of what might be out there somewhere. These aren't "real" Texas numbers, but it's what we've got.
Our lease, NW of Fredericksburg, is about $450/gun (we're debating replacing one guy, or just going with 5 instead of 6, so there's a chance the dollar figure could go up $100). We're on about 600 acres, but there is no water on the land (aside from 3 well-fed water troughs), and much of it has been cleared for sheep ranching. We also pay $1200/year to rent the camphouse (a pretty nice house to call a "camphouse"), and pay all electric and gas used there. We run feeders year 'round, and also add alfalfa in the fall and mineral tubs/blocks in the spring & summer.
All told, it costs me about $1300-1400/year. It is more affordable because of the lack of water, we have to 'lure' the deer in from the neighboring ranches, and the landowner is a family friend going back a couple of generations. Also, there aren't any trophies out here - we're all in it for the meat, and we each try to take at least one cull buck/year.
I know it doesn't help you in DFW, but there could be a hidden gem out there somewhere.

USDA Prime + Angus Rib-Eye's are cheaper.RPBrown wrote:Really no such thing as affordable anymore. Most are either being leased long term already or out of reach dollar wise, or have no game left on them unless you go a long way out from DFW and even then they are expensive. . . .
