Austin ranges w/ rental guns?
Are there any Austin area ranges that offer rentals? I have a good friend who's wife wants to try a few before buying. We're actually up near Ft. Hood but Austin is closest metro are.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Reds has a good selection. Also Eagle Peak just north of Austin has a selection as well.cb1000rider wrote:Reds in Pflugerville. Indoor range.

Reds North should be able to get y'all what you need. Pricing used to be $15 for the first gun and an additional $5 for any gun thereafter plus ammunition (plus the hourly range fee - its also cheaper to share a lane). That pricing is based on my experience there over a year ago though, so it may have inflated due to current circumstances.
Some general tips for reds: AVOID going on the weekends or peak hours, because it gets crazy busy with wait times and folks all over the place. Mid week and off peak times (think day time/mornings) are slowest. If you need to go on the weekends, show up right when they open. Also, go when there is a UT game on - no one comes out because they're all busy watching it!

Don't forget Red's South range. They also have rentals and not exactly the same as the North location. When I wanted to try the Sig P938, the South location had one in rental but the North did not.
You can check their website for listings, but a phone call will make sure they have what you want to try.

Since it's his wife looking, be aware that Red's has ladies' day on Mondays -- free rentals with ammo purchase and half-price lane rentals. Great for trying a bunch of things. However, my experience is that Monday nights are crowded.
Another thing to look into at Red's is the Austin Sure Shots. That's how I get in my shooting. They alternate between North and South on Wednesdays from 6 to 9. This week was north, so next week will be south. There's a Facebook page so you can find the specific dates, or shoot me a message. To join she'd just need to show up and go through a safety orientation, no fees or obligations. They'll offer further basic instruction if she needs it. Sure Shots get the ladies rate on Wednesday nights, and we get the first five lanes (at least up north; I assume south is similar). It's not usually too crowded in our area, and we just take turns and everything's real friendly. In fact, if she's wanting to try something they don't have as a rental, she can ask around and if anyone has it they'll be happy to help. A lot of times there's also a one-hour class from 8 to 9 on basic subjects... awareness, gun cleaning, that sort of thing.
It's a bit of a drive, so if she's looking to try something specific that's not on the rental list, maybe let me know what she's looking for and I can ask around for her before she comes? I'd be happy to help if I can.
