Happy Superbowl weekend armed Texans!
Good luck. Did your dog survive? I hope so.

Yes sir he's running around out there somewhere. They've been bitten before mainly by copperheads and we never had to go to the vet. These bites were always low on there legs and they lay around and limp for a day or two but that's about it. This bite was in the muscle low on his back leg 22" above the ground so it was either a large rattlesnake or a cottonmouth. From the swelling, infection and light bleeding we thought he got cut on a fence since he seemed perfectly fine. Took him to the vet to get the infection cleaned up and when they shaved him we saw the fang marks. First time any of the dogs were bitten that high. Also a first for January!

Since the NFL has become so antigun I am going to the range and turn gun powder into smoke and noise! Then I am going to come home and turn some pens on my lathe.

Here is another vote for no game, no commercials, and no halftime. It would be impossible for me to care any less about professional sports, much less football and/or the superbowl.

The weather is supposed to be nice. I will take a ride on the motorcycle, Take the dog to the park, perhaps hit the range, and work on my book.

You should come squirrel hunting in my front yard. I put out four traps starting two months ago and have caught more than fifteen squirrels. I live in the city of Plano... by the way. Dawg gone tree rats get into the attic for warmth and flat out tear it up. They never quit coming. I am wondering if I am ever going to get rid of them.

My daughter asked to go to the range and shoot. I gave her one of her grandfather's .22s for Christmas. We will probably do that Saturday

Sunday, I hope to take her fishing (not her favorite activity). If we can catch some, I'll be smoking some rainbow trout Sunday night.

Try sprinkling some mothballs in your attic. They sure work to keep rats & mice away.

Funny you suggest this. I purchased a gamo pellet rifle. A sound barrier breaking, 1200 FPS, weapon of mass destruction. A scope for improved accuracy to reach the extreme edges of my yard, some distances as far as twenty five feet away. The plan was to begin with an onslaught of firepower that would result in the total annihilation of any and all squirrels, be they friend or foe. A type of shock and awe campaign. My prediction was that any squirrels not immediately taken out would flee, screaming in terror, from the neighborhood.

Well, as with any fool proof plan, there are unforeseen events and circumstances that can alter the outcome in a most unfavorable way. Enter, my daughter! :totap: The champion of all party poopers, wet blanket and professional kill joy. Her and my SIL do a pop in just an hour or so after my gun arrived. I had it out of the box and laying on the kitchen table. Pellets to one side, targets with pictures of squirrels laying to the other side. Knowing that I have been complaining about all the squirrels she immediately comes to the most obvious conclusion about the sight before her.

I kid you not, the first words out of her mouth are, "I know you aren't thinking about killing all those cute little squirrels". I have no idea why, but the first words out of my mouth were not, "I'm an adult, I will do what I want". Nope, all I can come up with is "what the heck are you talking about?" :evil2: . Then she spends several seconds listing out all the possible negative consequences of such a poor decision. :rules: Minor little annoyances such as it being illegal to shoot pellet guns in the city of Plano. Then she hits me with the possibility it is illegal to blast squirrels in the city as well. I got to hear about my neighbors possibly calling the cops on me, what will happen if I shoot someone's car or window out and her favorite hammer, what is it going to look like if the owner of our company is arrested for shooting at squirrels in the city limits and it ends up in the Plano newspaper.

She rattles all this off quicker than I can type it, stops talking and gives me this look that reminded me of... Well... Me when she was five and i would catch her doing something wrong. I swear on all that's holy, all I could come up with for my rebuttal was... "Im not going to shoot any squirrels, that's why I bought the targets". She responded by telling me I better not be lying, while looking at me like she is my mother. My SIL, who has just been sitting there watching the whole time and never once comes to my rescue, laughs out loud and says, so much for that plan.

Check... And check mate. She had nailed me again. After promising her I wouldn't blast these demons of destruction, I would feel guilty every time I even thought about opening fire. That night I ordered the traps and ever since they arrived I have been capturing squirrels, driving them more than ten miles away to a wooded area and turning them loose. :grumble

The guy across the street did this. It worked, chased all the squirrels right over to my house. The problem was, his whole house smelled of mothballs for months. After six months, the odor is still detectable in some of his rooms.

It sounds like he used WAY too many. I said "sprinkle". A little goes a long way. Those rodent noses are several orders of magnitude more sensitive than ours.

I may give it a shot. I had considered that he may have put to many but after smelling it all over his house, I was pretty worried about having the same issue. Thanks for the tip. :cheers2:

I use peppermint oil, same effect as moth balls without the terrible smell.
