So, if I'm reading the article right, they are complaining that "accidental" deaths are being under reported because they are being classified as homicides because of the gross neglect on the part of the gun owner? Heaven forbid we hold the gun owner responsible instead of the gun itself!

Yes, they've been pushing it recently. I swear I remember them doing this a couple of years ago. But it includes "educating" 5-year-olds not to touch and call an adult if they find a gun. Then the adults leave the room and the kids "find" a hidden gun. They then, naturally, look down the barrel and point it at one another, while the parents watch in horror on a monitor in another room.

Does this ring a bell with anybody else?

Into the safe, check.... Along with taking the "mystery" out of guns by teaching your kids basic
gun safety. When my kids were young, I introduced them to hunting. I think showing them the damage
a bullet or shot pellets can do on game animals was the most profound lesson. Period. Better than
paper targets or milk jugs, and definitely better than Dad's endless safety talks. Now that all my brood
are adults....we still hunt & fish together. Some of our best times.......

Completely agree. At a young age (oh so long ago) my father taught the typical rules, don't touch, etc. However, the visual lesson left a distinct impression that firearms were meant for business. Later, when I was a bit older, dad then taught us how use a firearm. Thanks Dad, you taught us well.

The only thing I took away from this was that none of the parents have ever talked with the kids about firearms.

I wish the NRA would make a video showing it was nothing but propaganda.

Yeah, it is pretty darned absurd. I have no stats to back it up but I would be willing to bet most accidents where kids get ahold of a gun start out with the child finding the gun while rummaging around in places they should not be in the first place. Like mom and dad's bedroom. I am a huge advocate of keeping guns locked up from children. But it seems like most of the stories I read of kids shooting other kids while playing with guns found the gun stashed under a bed, in a drawer by the bed or even up on a closet shelf. I don't recall reading about a parent hiding their gun in the kids bedroom or leaving the gun just laying on the coffee table. Maybe it has happened... I just don't think it is the norm.

Our children are grown now. I worked as a LEO as they were growing up and I never locked up a gun or even hid it. Never not one problem.

Now that we have grand kids it is a different story. All of the guns hidden are collected and placed in the safes and EDC on the hip.

I am not sure why the difference in just one generation. My dad retired as Chief Deputy after spending 29 years in LEO. He never locked his guns up and I never had a notion to play with them.

The psychiatrist they use on these "pro-safety" shows make absolutely no sense. I do not know what has happened through the decades, but it appears common sense has been stolen away from this generation.
