Tell Hotel Manager Or Not?
I have a wedding to goto south of the border this Weekend, and
staying at a hotel north of the border in Laredo, TX.
Here are my choices:
1. Speak with the manager and tell him/her that i need to store my weapon in the safety deposit box ( I have to inform him becuase id like to disarm and store behind the front desk, out of sight).
2. Leave my weapon in the trunk of my car (no safe).
3. Leave my weapon here at home (San Marcos) and not take it with me (this i definitely dont want to do).
Has anyone ever had to speak with a hotel manager about storage or had to disclose your CHL to someone whom you otherwise never would?

You need one of these:

However, give the choices that you have provided, I would lock it in my trunk. I don't inform anyone that I don't have to that I'm carrying or not carrying (by leaving it at the hotel).

Does the hotel not have one of the room safes in it? If not, get a strong box mounted in the trunk of your vehicle and put it in there. I would not disclose to anyone that you need to store a gun somewhere.

Third option, wrap it in a small box or cloth bag, and tuck it in the Safe Box.. nobody should see you do this and it will be very discreet. Not all hotels have safe boxes so call ahead..
Zillions of cars are stolen in Laredo, don't leave it in the car.. both may be missing upon your return..
Or, a local gunshop might be willing to hold it for you for a day?

I assume you're not planning on driving your car south of the border - with a gun in it, locked in the trunk or otherwise?
Most hotels I stay in have safes in the room, usually in the closet . . . I've used these on occasion, with no problem.
Not 100% secure . . . but then, what is?
(Uhh . . . you're staying in Laredo . . . does that mean you're going into Nuevo Laredo, the murder/drug mecca of northern Mexico? Good luck, wish you a safe return.)

I guess i dont feel its a big deal. I myself work in a hotel and have had to store weapons many, many times as hunters would stay at our hotel when they come down to go hunting.Mike from Texas wrote:Does the hotel not have one of the room safes in it? Im sure Laredo, Tx hotels see even more weapons that i ever have.

Thats a great idea Para, cant believe i didnt think of it. I wonder how strange it would look pulling something out of your pocket wrapped in a cloth or shirt. Hmmmm. But i think its a good idea.para driver wrote:Third option, wrap it in a small box or cloth bag, and tuck it in the Safe Box.. nobody should see you do this and it will be very discreet. I have called and they do have boxes the same size as the ones in the hotel i work in.
besides, you can always just get one of those milita-specials on the other side of the border!
jk.
I would think you could have it stored at the hotel, but I don't know if you're under any obligation to disclose what it is. put it in a shoebox, and tell the guy, "I wanna store this shoebox."
wouldn't leave it in the car, though. How long you plannin' on being in Mesico? just a day? you could prolly leave it in yer room, with yer luggage, with a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. I don't think the maids care that much to rifle (PUN!!!) through your stuff. I'm of the opinion that it wouldn't be hard to find out, and maids aren't exactly hard to come by.
but that's my opinion, I have no law degree, nor do I play a lawyer on TV.
(but I did stay at a Best Western, once...)

Yes exactly, fortunatly i think i can pass for a local, hehe. But im also getting picked up by friends who do live in Nuevo Laredo. I think my chances for getting into any mess are very slim.HankB wrote:I assume you're not planning on driving your car south of the border - with a gun in it, locked in the trunk or otherwise?

Just remember that if you leave your gun in a shop for safekeeping, they will have to record its number on their books just like any other gun they take in in the course of business.dihappy wrote:Thats a great idea Para, cant believe i didnt think of it.
