Fort Worth ISD opposes indoor gun range near schools HQ

There's a new indoor gun range being planned near the headquarters of the Fort Worth ISD, and the school board doesn't like it! They're worried about 'bullets flying around" and that "some students could find it disconcerting to have a gun range close to schools." Clint Bond, the PR guy for the district says that "students being able to see guns in the area could cause a distraction to learning".

Yeah, if they're in the gun range instead of being in school, where they belong (there are special education classrooms in the district office building, and the Metro Opportunity High School which is an alternative school for, IIRC, kids who have previously dropped out of school and who have returned, wanting to complete their high school is also nearby).

Apparently, the range could have up to 90 foot lanes (that'll be the longest on the FW side of the metroplex), and will have a retail shop included. Cullen & Shotts LLC are the group that are proposing the range, no time estimate available because they're just now going through the zoning changes and approvals.

No word on whether the school district will file suit to stop the range or not.

I am convinced that people in the School System are mentally incompetent.
Really. Making a gun with your fingers is a criminal act on school property.
Seeing a gun can cause learning disruption.

Regularly shoot at Shiloh in Houston and have shot at other indoor ranges in Houston and Kalifornia. Absent the sign in front you'd never know they were there. They just like any other generic store front.

I think you don't see what's going on in these cases, and the reason is that you're attributing good will and ignorance to people who have ill will and are driven by dogma. It may be stupid of them but it isn't ignorance......this is right out of the Brady Bunch playbook. It's a deliberate and considered effort to demonize guns, their use, and their possession. It's a conscious effort to stigmatize the enemy just like calling anyone who criticizes Obama a racist.

When I was in high school, and JROTC, we had a rifle range inside the school armory.

When I was in high school, we had a rifle range inside the school armory, and it had nothing at all to do with JROTC. It was an on-campus club at a fairly exclusive private boys prep school—marksmanship being considered one of the manly arts.

Times have changed.

My NJROTC had its own rifle range. (As most/all JROTCs in Houston did.) I wonder if any still have them... Hmmmm.

I believe that they have switched to air rifles these days.

If this is a co-ed High School, probably the guns wouldn't be noticed that much.

I would think having a range near a school would motivate students.

Education+Graduate = Better Job+Make Money = Buy ___ to Use Range :)
