30.06 @ Palmer Event Center?
My company is planning on volunteering at the HEB "Feast of Sharing" event at the Palmer Event Center the week of Thanksgiving. I haven't been there in many, many years and was wondering if it was posted with a 30.06. I would assume as a city facility that they would not be able to post it, but wanted to check and see if anyone had been there lately and seen any signs. I'll certainly volunteer if I can but a 30.06 is a deal-killer for me.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I agree that the city should not be able to post a 30.06 notice at this facility. However, this is Austin.

Since owned and operated by the city, even if it were posted, the sign would be invalid.

We had a whole thread dedicated to this, remember?!
It's a Valid Sign, and It's a Legal Sign, It's just not enforceable :P
IANAL, YMMV, ITEOTWAWKI and all that.

I know, you're correct .... but old dogs are hard to teach to wear a new Habit, or maybe it's that it's hard for old dogs to be kicked ... I forget....dicion wrote:"Not Legally Enforceable" :PRPB wrote:Since owned and operated by the city, even if it were posted, the sign would be invalid.

I'm having one of those "I know what I meant to say, but said it wrong" days, every day for the last 2 weeks. Having worked in a law office so long, I used to express myself more precisely, but I'm blaming ragweed pollen for making my head so stuffy that my brain shrank or shrunk. I wasn't exactly on point, but got the idea across in a Dripping Springs parks posts too ... Maybe it's the antihistamines.
I'll try to be more careful

I'm happy to report that I saw no 30.06 signs or anything similar at Palmer Event Center when I was there last week.
Re: 30.06 @ Palmer Event Center?
Was there for SXSW event and a seemingly correct 30.06 notice was on the doors. Understand that it's not enforceable due to the Austin City ownership. Just updating the thread. As I was entering the event, I searched this site from my phone to double check that it was city owned..

Yup. This site is pretty solid archive of cumulative knowledge. Not sure about others, but I find myself searching for info all the time about specifics. Just trying to be a good TexasCHLForum citizen and contribute to the knowledge base.

I prefer to say it a different way. It's quite enforceable. And it's very likely that a LEO that arrests under it will have no consequence under the concept of qualified immunity. That is, most "reasonable" people don't know that 30.06 isn't valid on a city owned property. I've spoken with officers that will enforce on it and I've spoken with those that won't, but I ask the question outside of being in that situation.dicion wrote:

I prefer to say that it's not "prosecutable"....
Chas has some draft legislation that would make improper posting actionable (civil) by you and me, which might discourage cities that do it anyway.
