Curious: County owned property, not a professional sporting event....how can they legally keep CHL'ers out?

Interesting. Though it doesn't have PRCA sanction, the amount of money involved makes me leery of carrying there even still. Those cowboys and girls aren't hobbyists doing it for fun, they're looking to get paid.

At the Houston City hall you must pass through a metal detector and have your carry on go through xray just like the airport, but by law there is no 30.06. So I asked and I was told legal CHL carry is permitted. They are only scanning for illegal carry. The BBQ cookoff must be the same.

But it would make me nervous to be carrying and be wanded there, with no idea what would happen when it was discovered.

It was explained to the committee I'm on that the Houston Rodeo dropped PRCA sanction due to the amount of $$ required to be a sanctioned event. The more money the pay out the less they have for scholarships which is what the HLSR is all about. Even though it not not a sanctioned event it is an invitation only competition and one of the highest paying rodeos in the US. IMO I believe this would be view as a professional event inside Reliant Stadium.

Corral Club under the HLSR has their own Liquor license, ARMARK has one also and I don't know who has the license for the beer sellers around Reliant Park.

I can also tell you that any of these people could not compete in a college event after doing the Houston Rodeo. It's definitely "professional" under the common sense definition, and since the law does not define professional, you'd be in deep cow manure if you were caught inside carrying during the Rodeo.


As for the liquor licenses, only the Corral Club(s) is 51%.

I'm very certain of both statements above, but do your own research.

Trivia fact: more alcohol is sold during the 3 weeks at the Rodeo than is sold at all Houston restaurants and bars combined for the year.

While that may be true about the 51% for the Corral Club (principal location) others are not designated. I work at Stockman's and there are no 51% signs at our club. Now, common sense would tell me not to carry in such a place because ALL (now that food is no longer sold there) sales are alcohol related...but, technically I suppose, you could carry.
