Evidently he hadn't gotten around to the four rules yet.

Sure sounds accidental to me. If I were to try to teach someone to 'shoot', I would also show up at their home at 5:00 AM with a loaded shotgun.

I suppose this would be more convenient than waiting for a range to open, or to maybe not have people sleeping inside the house at the time.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.

Well, that's a mess. In addition to the odd hour for a shooting lesson, I also noted that the article says the deceased had just bought the shotgun earlier that morning.
“We don't think she invited him over with the intent to murder him,” Bois said. “But she really should have known better.”
If the boyfriend bought the shotgun for her earlier that morning I'd have to agree that she didn't invite him over with the intent to murder him since she wouldn't have had it before and he bought it for her. And if he was going to show her how to use it, I'm not sure she would have known better to have checked to see if it was loaded.

Not really sure where one could go before 5:00 AM to buy a shotgun and ammo.

I think it is safe to say it wasn't through an FFL.

I don't know about that. Does a 24-hour Wal-Mart have any restrictions on what hours firearms are sold?

I've never tried to buy a gun from Walmart late at night, or ever for that matter, but I have heard that some do have a policy of not selling ammo after 10 pm. If that is true I can't imagine that they sell a gun either.

Yes they do. No firearms are sold after a specific time (don't know what it is) and according to a manager I spoke to recently no ammo is to be sold after 10pm.

I didn't notice that it said he bought the shotgun early in the morning before 5 AM.

It just said, earlier that morning, so I was guessing.
