Cedar, So you don't believe that people seeing people properly wearing an exposed sidearm will help to desensitize many of the fearful over time?
It wasn't that long ago that Rob and Laura were sleeping in separate twin beds. Now look at what we see on TV.

if OC passes and if i did decide to OC at anytime i would probably carry either the FNP-9 or the M&P 40, the 9 would have the hammer down and and still be use in DA, along with the 40.... I like carrying my SR1911 in Condition 1, dont know what people might think if they see the hammer back on it..

Not to go too far off topic, but headed to Oklahoma tomorrow for the first time since they cleared up the issue with out of state licensees carrying open. I look forward to doing so!
As for the topic of this thread, I think keeping a normal profile and acting as if you were CC is the right way to go. Trying to "educate" someone about our universal civil rights seems snooty and I don't see you getting anywhere with that. It's parallel to what OCT does now with long guns. Just move on.

The difficulty here is that it impacts how people feel about the cause. We've had several chains at least publicly get caught up because of Fatman and Snowboots. We will not win over everyone and I do not expect to. If we can win someone over that is great. If not, they were lost anyway.
I don't place much in what others think of me anyway. You shouldn't either. Thanks for your comments.
As noted, most people won't notice or just assume you are a cop, unless you do something to flaunt it. Its much different than walking in with a rifle.

To be clear I am not against OC -EXCEPT FOR EVERYONE IN THE OC MOVEMENT. I think it will be forgotten about most of the time as people will assume they are PoPo, unless its the OC crowd doing something stupid AGAIN. This will impact all of us.

We aren't talking about OCing long arms.
The OC movement as you put it consists of more than just the extremists of which you speak. There are many OC proponents who do not agree with the OCT and OCTC fools.

I would actually advise a retention holster if this is expected to be in town, for the primary reason I wouldn't open carry personally. I'm worried about others trying to grab the firearm.

Agreed, IDC if people confuse me for a LEO when I OC, because I am anyway, though I don't want the extra publicity for it. I found you and I think in sync on this topic "cedar park dad," because I hate having to constantly hover my firearm in public places due to the possibility of somebody trying to make a go for it. CC is the way to go in very public places like malls or shopping center IMO, or at least a level II or III retention holster. It would be crapy to go out with a bang, if that bang was your gun stripped from your nylon holster and pointed at your back.Cedar Park Dad wrote:You're not the guys I'm worried about.anygunanywhere wrote:We aren't talking about OCing long arms.

So every other day is good enough for you? Please, you speak of it as it it doesn't happen, because you have not witnessed it yourself I suppose. I hate to say that I've gone from talking to somebody, to have them think they can pull out my glock my level III blackhawk duty holster. I say this, because I've been there, not because I'm some kid thinking I live in COD. Heed my concerns, or ignore them, you don't have to like them, nor do you have to conflict it openly.anygunanywhere wrote:Like that happens every day.Charlies.Contingency wrote:Agreed, IDC if people confuse me for a LEO when I OC, because I am anyway, though I don't want the extra publicity for it. Re: If and When OC Passes, The Best Way to Do It Discussion
Excuse me, but with respect, you have no idea what you are talking about. If you haven't done it yourself, you are just speculating.Cedar Park Dad wrote: You won't educate people. Unless you're in a rural environs, you're going to make yourself and the cause look stupid, like Fatman and Snowboots.
The concept of "educating" others is...misplaced.
I am personally aware of many conversations with curious or interested people triggered by open carry. I personally know of people who started carrying after seeing other people open carry.
I have personally open carried 4-5 times per week (and concealed carry the rest of the time) for years prior to moving to Texas.
People have not mistaken me for Fatboots and Snowman. Instead, they think I am a middle-aged senior corporate executive ... because that is exactly what I am.
All the people who are speculating about the problems, drama, and tension that would happen if open carry would pass remind me of all the hysterical anti-gunner cries that there will be "blood in the streets" before concealed carry passes.
Are there a few doofus, grandstanding idjits making bad publicity at places like Home Depot? Sure. There are always idiots out there. But they do not represent the everyday reality of the thousands of ordinary nondescript Americans who already quietly go about living their life while open carrying. Kind of like the actions of a very few CHL's who end up on the DPS felony crime statistics each year are not representative of the 3/4 million Texans who quietly go about their day as law-abiding citizens.

Re: If and When OC Passes, The Best Way to Do It Discussion
He does have his point though, the tide will rise with the storm, and go back once it passes. So long nothing terrible happens if OC is passed, then it'll probably fade into the every day norm IMO. I'm not too worried about it, I can't wait! But people will have their own personal concerns of course. I'm used to being seen as a LEO everywhere I go, so the thought doesn't bother me at all. My only concern is for everybody's safety, Life safety should be a top priority to us, that's why we carry.Cedar Park Dad wrote:They will once the media is done. There are always idiots out there.
