I grew up in Tennessee. Back in the early 1980's and before, Hunter's Safety was included in freshman Health class. It was a requirement to graduate.MeMelYup wrote:You can. That's pretty cool! I don't think it's that way anymore though, not with the way schools are.TXBO wrote:I grew up in Tennessee. Re: Greg Abbott and OC
I live in Texas and I drive through Oklahoma and Missouri to see my family. The thing that I wish Texas would do is adopt a similar outlook on OC as Oklahoma and Missouri. In those states anyone that has a valid CHL from that state or a recognized state may concealed carry OR open carry. I feel it should just be a "carrying permit." OC is a convenience and sometimes more practical than CC. when I am going through Oklahoma and Missouri i OC. I feel if you have to receive training to carry concealed you are just as qualified to carry openly. Maybe add a little to the CHL class on holsters or even state in the Bill that to open carry you must have a level 2 or level 3 holster. Idk... just brainstorming. bottom line though.. Texas needs to legalize Open carry.
Know guns, know peace and safety. No guns, no peace nor safety.

Mountain City. It's in the upper east corner of the state.Vol Texan wrote:Where in Tennessee did you grow up?TXBO wrote:

Just noticed your user name. Are you from TN also?
Re: Greg Abbott and OC
I certainly wish Abbott would come out for the party platform. There is a difference from essentially saying, I won't veto the bill if it happens to land on my desk and pushing for it to be a legislative priority. He likes to ride that political fence a lot.

Re: Greg Abbott and OC
I agree that I wish every elected official was required to support the Party Platform, but that's not the case. However, are you aware what Abbott as AG has done for gun owners? He's not just a talking head, he's been in the trenches for gun owners.paxton25 wrote:I certainly wish Abbott would come out for the party platform. Also, he didn't say he wouldn't veto an open-carry bill. He said he would sign it; that's a big difference. In Texas, a Governor can let a bill become law without his signature simply by not vetoing the bill within the time frame for doing so. If a Governor doesn't want to be associated with a law but they don't want the flak from vetoing it. they let it become law without his signature. Signing a bill, and telling everyone they will sign the bill, indicates their support.

Also Paxton25, where did he say, "I won't veto the bill if it happens to land on my desk"?

Re: Greg Abbott and OC
That wasn't a quote from him, and I didn't claim it was. Basically by saying I will sign a bill if it comes across my desk he is saying if someone else does the work to get it to him he won't fight it. That's different from actually going out there and stumping for it. He isn't throwing his full support behind the bill. If he was he would be saying something more encouraging like, "I urge the legislature to pass a bill" I have listened to virtually everything he has said on this issue and I have never heard him say he wants the legislature to pass the bill, only that if it comes across his desk he will sign it.

Your argument may be a touch pedantic. I'm not sure you could find a more staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment.
Re: Greg Abbott and OC
It's not an observation on his personal beliefs, but in several issues I have seen him be somewhat of a fence sitter or going along to get along and with his parsing of his statements about OC it is cause for concern in my view.
