The cap, which offers frontal protection, isn’t meant to replace a SWAT-style helmet, but is instead meant to be worn all of the time and to project a more approachable image.

Tell you what...... Without a liner and suspension system, a bullet hitting that thing would at least knock you out, not to mention giving you a severe concussion or a fractured skull.........assuming it stopped the bullet.

Yea… that would leave a mark. I think my tin foil hat would work as well.

Let's, for the sake of argument, say that it will stop a bullet from penetrating (which I'd have to see to believe.) AND let's say, for the sake of argument, that it would spread the force of impact across a wide enough area that it wouldn't cause a dent centralized too much where damage to the frontal lobe would be life threatening.

You still have the fact that the bullet doesn't stop on a dime. That kinetic energy has to go SOMEWHERE. That means your brain housing group will be accelerating at a rate slightly slower than the rate of the bullet DEcelerating. Your gray matter will be rattled to a very high degree.

Let's say for the sake of argument again that the brain survives this. The thing that I see that will do the most damage is that your body, having much more mass than your brain housing group, will not want to accelerate as fast. This disagreement will cause a separation of the two somewhere around the Atlas or Axis vertebrae. the brain stem is packed pretty darn tight in there.

My conclusion is that, even if the bullet impact does not ultimately result in a heart that stopped beating, you will be a vegetable for the rest of your days...

AND, provided it all works as claimed, you have to depend on the bad guy hitting the right 4" by 4" area...:

IIRC, at least one trauma doc ventured an educated guess that it would improve the chances of surviving a handgun bullet to that area from <1% to around 5% if medical help was available within 5-10 minutes.

IOW, if you're working security at the ER, it might be worth wearing.

Call me morbid but, if you were to hit me with a bullet in that specific area, I would rather it just go on through and get it over with...

Do you really want a cap with rather large printing on it that declares: Bullet Safe?

That alone would keep me from buying one.

I can just imagine people thinking, what a dork...

What do they consider surviving'?...just a continued heartbeat?

I could just see it in my mind:

Nurse aide 1: "how long has he been like this?" *as he wipes the drool off of the side of my face*
Nurse aide 2: "oh, about 15 years or so." *as he changes my diaper*
Nurse aide 1: "that's all he does? Just stare off into space like that?"
Nurse aide 2: "some times he lets out a wimper. But, if it hadn't been for the hat he was wearing, he'd be dead."
