Nice dodge, but that's not what I was responding to. I was talking about your juvenile understanding of our freedoms. Presumably you support a national gun registry. After all, you're not doing anything wrong and have nothing to hide.safety1 wrote:If you don't like it, call your senator and ask them to vote against it. I fully agree that if passing HB910 requires removing the amendment then that's the best course of action. That doesn't change the fact that the "if you have nothing to hide" argument is bull.

A bill allowing for openly carried handguns will be stripped of a House amendment that bans police stops to check for concealed handgun licenses when the legislation is considered by a Senate committee Monday, the bill’s Senate sponsor told the American-Statesman.
Sen. Craig Estes, R-Wichita Falls, said the amendment will be removed from House Bill 910 at the request of Sen. Joan Huffman, R-Houston, who is chairwoman of the State Affairs Committee.

Are you OK with them detaining you long enough to call it in or run it through their computer system to make sure it's still valid? What about patting you down while they are at it? Well, they are there so why not search your vehicle? How about run your gun serial number to see if it is stolen? Don't forget, calling for the drug dog to sniff because your allergies are causing your eyes to be red? What if you get nervous and they take that as you hiding something?
What appears to be an innocent no big deal encounter can turn bad in a snap without valid justification.
I understand removing it in order to get it moving but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's no big deal if we have nothing to hide.

I think the idea is that if you OC you will attract a large LEO presence more so if they feel they can hassle you into not OCing. Im gonna give them my itinerary for the day and hopefully get a VIP police escort around town. That's what I call service. Of course I'm trying to make the best of a bad deal and it really is a bummer they removed the amendment.TXBO wrote:I'd like the amendment to stay buy if I'm in a place with a large LEO presence, I'm most likely concealed anyway.LSUTiger wrote:That's a bummer, but if the police want to waste my time I am happy to waste theirs. Also, I think with OC, that I will be better protected, I'm sure they will follow OCers around in the beginning to hassle them. It's OK, with all the police following me around I think they might actually be around when you need them or better yet with OC and Police presence there will likely be no trouble in the first place.NotRPB wrote:@chucklindell now50 seconds ago
#HB910 will be substituted to REMOVE House amendment banning police stops solely to check CHL for open carry, @EstesForTexas says. #txlege
I feel safer already. Let's hope OC final makes it through the process!

Didn't mean to make you mad. Was just curious where you draw the line. Did you not see the video of the guy stopped in Florida? He advised them he had a chl and was carrying. Almost all the above happened to him.

Because my guess is that Acevedo will instruct APD to "Check 'em all." I don't want to be stopped every few hours and be asked, "Papieren bitte?" I'd rather just go about my business with my family and not take the chance on getting a D-bag who thinks I'm compensating for something.safety1 wrote:If you have a valid CHL and are doing nothing wrong....What does it matter?arthurcw wrote:So, "Don't go to Austin and OC." While 99% of the cops won't give a flip and will be doing it because they have to and 99% of gun owners will just hand over their ID with all the giddiness of a 40-something being carded for beer, I don't want some overzealous t*rd-in-the-punchbowl (on either side) getting into a Klingon P*cker Swinging contest shouting about "Mah Authoratah!" or "Mah Rights!" WIll it happen? I have no clue. But seeing what passes for restraint among OCT and MDA(and their supporting Police Chiefs), I have my concerns. I'll just elect to conceal in some places until this runs its course. Pick your battles.

Knock off the conspiracy theory crap. First, Lindell reported what the House author of campus carry told him (about a conversation that did happen, which isn't something I'd describe as "completely false"). Now he's reporting what the Senate author of open carry told him (about something others in the know have been reporting for almost a week).Aggie_engr wrote:Let's not jump to conclusions here. Remember Chuck Lindell is the same Chuck who previously declared that campus carry was going to be attached to open carry in an attempt to progress the bill when in fact it was completely false. Let's pause the discussion now before it ends up spreading wrong information and confusing people who are only able to stay informed by reading tidbits of updates.NotRPB wrote:@chucklindell now50 seconds ago

I'm not sure if ol Chuck is trying to rally those in opposition or proponents by putting out these false stories. Maybe his intent is to see what kind of response it generates on here and elsewhere?

Cops are pretty good for the most part at context. Lets turn this around a bit.... I've been a member of this forum for a long time and have seen countless posts discussing scenarios/circumstances that cause us to go from condition Green to Condition Yellow (alert to something of potential concern). I (just a private citizen with a CHL) can concoct lots of scenarios where I'd go from condition Green to condition Yellow when encountering somebody who was open carrying. I like to think cops are perceptive enough to do the same. Asking somebody for ID when the context of the situation indicates it doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
Are we going to hear stories of cops hassling open carriers? Certainly. But I think it's going to be rare, and I mostly think open carry is going to be a non-event. If 2 years from now this is a problem, then by all means lets have an amendment...
