Well when a place is decided on let me know where it is. Hewitt is on the south side of Waco.

Is anybody from the Alliance area planning to go? I might be interested in a car pool.

Also - what's a normal morning of shooting cost? (I've done trap out there, but it's been 12 years. How many rounds did ya'll do last time? Will #7 1/2 shot work?)

Also - may I recommend updating the topic and original post with the confimlrmed date. It might get a couple more people to come now that a few more details are available.

Alpine is $7.50 per round of skeet and Elm Fork is $8.95.

Four rounds is usually our limit.

7-1/2, 8, or 9 shot is good.

Re: DFW Skeet Shoot—Alpine or Elm Fork, 5/23 weather permitt

I exchanged emails a few days ago with Cynde Boehm, the manager of Elm Fork as to whether or not the skeet range would be flooded/available on Saturday. She gave me her cellphone number and asked me to call her today to determine status, so I did.

All of Elm Fork is currently flooded, and they have no plans to try and open any of the ranges until this coming Wednesday at the earliest. So we are NOT going to shoot there this weekend.

I will call Alpine right now and find out their status and let you all know, then we can decide whether or not to postpone this thing to another date.

EDITED TO ADD: I just got off the phone with Alpine. They are not flooded and are not on a flood plain. They will be open rain or shine, but they will not send a kid out to stand in the rain to operate the launchers if we want to shoot in the rain.

My weather app says between 40% and 70% chance of rain for Fort Worth between 8am and noon on Saturday.

Can we get a consensus on postponement?

Postpone sounds good. . . it's been the same story for our kids' sports all spring. Why should mine be any different? :biggrinjester:

As much as I want to shoot, I'm not too excited about making a 75 mile drive only to get rained out.

I'll pass on tomorrow.

You guys, I agree. I think we should cancel and try to reschedule after the rains finally stop.

In that case, I'm back in depending upon my new work schedule. :thumbs2:

Bummer. I was really looking forward to shooting this weekend, but IMO this is the right call.

Quack Quack.

Somebody send in the boats!

Be safe over the weekend everyone!

Skeet shooting from boats would definitely increase the difficulty level.

I won't be able to make it this Saturday.

One of my granddaughters is graduating high school on Friday. We're driving down to Burnet and won't be back home until Saturday afternoon.

For the rest of you, Elm Fork's web page now says:
Limited Services For The Next 30 Days: Skeet Fields, Practice Traps, One Sporting Clay Course
So it looks like the skeet fields will be open, if the weather holds. Good luck!

At this point, I'm tired of fighting it. I had no idea when I started this thread that the weather was going to be such a dominant issue for as long as it's been. I'm not going to try and outguess it any longer. When the storms stop for realz and we start getting some normal late spring/early summer weather, I'll get interested again. I saw earlier today where this is already the rainiest month on record for Texas, and there's still 3 days left.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nati ... /28056227/
This has been the wettest month on record for Texas, and there are still several days left. The state climatologist's office said Wednesday that Texas has gotten an average of 7.54 inches of rain in May, breaking the old record of 6.66 inches, set in June 2004.

Texas has been hit with almost continuous storms for the past week to 10 days. The wettest area has been from Dallas-Fort Worth to the Red River, where some places have gotten more than 20 inches of rain.
