IF Colt does go belly up and the courts order liquidation, I think that someone will buy the trade name Colt and start manufacturing 1911's all over again. And I think the company who will buy the name will be Armscor. :smash:
I'll do ya one worse. Taurus. Imagine one of their revolvers with a prancing pony on the side...
I'd rather not. :ack:

AndyC wrote:Be that as it may, I just purchased a new series 80-style (yes, I know) Colt 1911 last night - probably because I'm 50 years old now and have never owned a Colt and it's about time before I die.

I'm going to be removing the offending fire-control parts and replacing the long plastic trigger with a John Harrison medium-length trigger.
Andy, I am glad that you can cross the Colt off of your bucket list. ;-)

I have always liked Colts. In fact, most of the handguns I own are Colts.

Morongo Tribe Rides to Colt’s Rescue

From my reading of that article, the title is a bit overambitious: The Morongos have said they're willing to buy, but doesn't sound like they have been taken up on the offer yet...

Most interesting article ELB! Thanks for posting! Definitely worth the read. :tiphat:

It is an ambitious plan, and it sounds like their desire to own Colt is pretty high on their business plan list. They just might be able to pull it off. I hope they do. BUT, if they do, please, please Mr. Ryce, DO NOT relocate the plant to your headquarters in Palm Springs, CA! :nono: If relocation will happen, take a look at Texas. We'd(at least me) would welcome you with open arms. I think the Governor would too! :txflag:

I love the last paragraph of the article!

I'd love to see it in Texas also, but I have no idea if the Morongos have any presence here.

What might be interesting about if Morongos take ownership and move the manufacturing (which I doubt, but) to Indian land, I am wondering if they could tell California and the Feds to go pound sand about any of their laws regulating manufacture? They would have to follow some laws since the guns would be 'exported' off Indian land to the rest of the US, but since they (Indians) can have casinos in states that ban or regulate them, I would think they could build civilian "assault" rifles and hi cap magazines and such, and maybe with manufacturing methods that Cali probably tries to restrict (since they try to restrict everything else to the point of civilizational suicide).

For Colt’s Native American suitors, it’s not just business; it’s history, interest and commitment, their attorney said. “We have gone to great lengths to get our hands on Colts,” he said. “Just ask General Custer.”

I read that Colt lost bids on military contracts resulting in their being pushed almost into bankruptcy - That being said: Who/What Corporation/mfg. etc was awarded the contracts?

Anyone here know?

Thanks!

Perhaps the answer lies here"

"The downturn for Colt seems to have started after the company, which had relied on sales to the government, lost a multimillion dollar bid for to arm the military.

Following a drawn-out and contentious bidding war, Colt lost its contract to provide the Pentagon with M4 rifles in 2013. The $77 million contract went instead to a Belgian company, F.N. Herstal."

A more comprehensive analysis of what forced Colt into bankruptcy is in this article. It's worth a read:
