BUG/Deep Conceal

The first gun I bought my wife was a S&W642 which is great when it comes to something that is light and easy to carry, but she fired 2 rnds through it and couldn't fire it any more. I tried to shoot it and it hurt my had to shoot too. I don't have small hands either.

Were you shooting +P or regular .38spl? I don't have a problem practicing with regular .38spl, but the +P can be pretty hard on your hand. About 10 rounds of it is max for me. Usually I practice with regular ammo and carry +P.

I shot regular .38 spl. as well as the light target loads I used to use for PPC. I'm pretty experienced with revolvers from my PPC days, but I have never had a gun that was as painful to shoot.

It was great to carry as it was pretty light, and ya never had to worry about the hammer snagging on anything, but neither the little woman nor me could shoot it.

It could be that you have bigger hands than I do. I'd say mine are about average in size, though not at all on the small size.

I don't usually carry my S&W Airweight Bodyguard but it does go out once in a while. I like to keep accustomed to it and practise with it monthly.

I shoot standard .38 Special loads for practise but it doesn't take too long before I stop enjoying it. I usually follow up with a few 110 grain +P loads and 10 rounds of that damps my enthusiasm.

I'm not sensitive to recoil, I shoot my Ultra Compact .45 regularly with standard and +P loads and my .454 Casull is a hoot to shoot from time to time but a lightweight .38 is not something I choose to shoot a lot.

I do have big hands. So that could be part of it. I'm not really a wheelgun guy, but I've really grown to like the 642. It's a very easy gun to carry.

Rubber grips tend to make shooting a lot easier on my hands, although I've got wood grips on my 642, which work better for concealment.

I have the P3AT for deep concealment. I don't shoot it but about every third time to the range. I also have a Kahr PM40 that is a lot easier on the hands to shoot and almost as small.

My wife actually prefers shooting her P3AT to shooting her Glock 26.

I've now "inherited" the G26, and carry it daily in my Galco ankle "glove".

My primary carry is a GLOCK 19, but will use a older S&W Model 60 when wearing shorts during the summer. It drops in the pocket nicely, but can snag on the way out because of the exposed hammer. If I were to purchase again, I'd go for one without an external hammer. The price on this Model 60 was just too good to pass up, so the hammer was a secondary consideration at the (impulsive) moment.

Well, I guess my mind is going to be made up by default: The P3AT seems to be unavailable through any local dealers. I am also interested in the PF9 as a possibility when it becomes available, so I will probably go with the weelgun for now and put off the acquisition of a SA BUG untill my next purchase.

Given my lack of comfort with a revolver that does not have DA/SA capability, I will probably go with one of the S&W shrouded hammer models as the best compromise.

Of course if I get my refund check prior to the Conroe show next weekend all this could change - who knows what will catch my eye! I also need to pick up a .22 just for plinking - thinking of the Taurus PT-22 for that.

I've deep concealed three different BUG's beginning with my Ruger SP-101 hammerless. I then moved into the Kel-Tec P-11 finally going to the Taurus PT-145 to maintain a constant in the ammunition that is available for use. I can tuck the PT-145 just about anywhere invisibly. It is a dream to shoot and extremely accurate.

Well, I did get to the Conroe show today after all and solved myquestion of Kel Tec P3AT versus S&W 638 - I bought both of them!
