If I was a liberal gun hater like 90% of the media is, I would use this as proof that whacko's can get throught the background checks and indeed get their license. Do you think this guy is stable ? Things like this cannot be good for our cause so I think it is very relevant.
Personally - I think the number of drunken jerks with a legally obtained driver's license and still driving is a bigger threat to public safety than some nut job that managed to obtain a CHL. Police are on the hook for this one for not checking joe-wanna-be when he suddenly showed up at a scene wanting to play cop the very first time. I also agree that the guy had a CHL is not relevant - just another symptom of the nut job dude's instability.

According to the news story he kicked down someone's door and entered their home when he was playing cop.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Yes, but he was acting on orders. A real cop would have done the same thing.

If they convinced me that he kicked down the door to someone's home, that would go a long way to a guilty vote on 37.12 (False Identification as Peace Officer) if I was on the jury. I'd probably be willing to vote guilty on burglary and trespass with a deadly weapon too.

It is not the state level I am worried about, it is the federal level. If you think states control anything, you are wrong. Try to go against the Federal Government and they will cut off your highway funds or any other federal funds your state is expecting for their budget. You might win a battle here and there but you will not win the war against the feds when they supply so much of the states budget. If things keep going the way they are, Texas will be a blue state within the next 10 years. That is a scary thought.

Just saw that they arrested this guy at his parents house in California. He was impersonating a Marine Corp MP and told the DPD he was on a special FBI task force. :nono:

The above is a link to the story on his capture. He parked his Black Crown Vic @ Love Field,
Dallas, flew to Cali and was staying at his mother's house in Castaic, Calif.

US Marshals took him into custody as he was trying to slip out the back door.

His Glock was found at his mother's house. I wonder if he clearly declared it
in his checked baggage when he flew from Dallas ----> Cali.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmm........
