there's been this incident where some thugs walked into a Oshman's and threw a dumbell through the pistol case and took a bag full of guns.

I don't blame them for not stocking but i think abetter solution is to arm the gun clerks.

That happened in the Humble Oshman's, but the Humble Academy still carries.
It's the one on 1-10 East and the one inside the 610 loop that won't carry.
(I found that out today.)
Also, Academy has really gone up on its guns. The guy behind the counter said they've gone up b/c they've barely been able to keep them in stock since Hurricane Katrina. He said production can't keep up with demand. The Springfield XD 9mm was $508! :willynilly:

I'll bite, since txinvestigator was too tired. If the guy's primary repsonsibility is customer service and selling and he happens to be wearing a gun (with the permission of whomever has control of the building), then he's not really security. The same goes for those that pack (sometimes openly) when running a gun store, pawn shop, or jewelry store. If his primary duty is security, then things change.

Under nonapplicability:

Section 46.02 does not apply to a person who:

...(2) is on the person's own premises or premises under due person's control unless the person is an employee or agent of the owner of the premises and the person's primary responsibility is to act in the capacity of a security guard to protect persons or property, in which event the person must comply with Subdivision (5);

How'd I do, txinvestigator?

I'd say he was fibbing. Production isn't a problem. But the dealer prices did go up. SA raised the prices and my shop is now selling XD's for only $10 less than Glocks. It used to be you could point out the value of the XD over the Glock because they were $80-$100 cheaper.

The market may bear it, but I think SA is about to price themselves out of market by matching Glock's already inflated price. I remember when the XD was called the HS2000 and RETAILED for $275. I just can't see paying $500 for the same gun with new markings today. And with the new price, I find it difficult to argue the XD offers a greater value over the Glock.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

G.C. Mont,
Why is SA bringing up their prices so much?
I know they are a good gun and have been featured in some consumer magazines. Does their high rating have anything to do with it?
(At Academy, the Springfield was $508, where the Glock was $496. I found that bizarre.)

IMHO
The XD has features the Glocks don't have. Loaded Chamber and firing pin indicator, noting wrong with a glock but even money I'd buy the XD.
Fits my hand better I guess and I like the grip angle.

As for supply and demand I thnk you correct.

Most 3rd gen Glocks DO HAVE a loaded chamber indicator and older glocks can have it too simply by replacing the extractor.

The Glock is simple, reliable, rugged and accurate. Parts are cheap and easy to get. XD parts are expensive and mostly have to come from SA. I've owned 2 HS2000's, 2 xd subs and an xd tactical. I currently own ZERO XD's and 5 Glocks.

The XD is a good gun, don't misunderstand me, I just think Glocks are better.

I have to agree.....but I don't think that will really surprise anyone
Try to pick up 10 spare mags for the XD....a signature loan might be necessary.

My wife was really leaning toward a subXD and we had a kind gentleman let us borrow his and try it.....it was a great little gun. Thank God I convinced her that Sig was a better alternative :o

I like the XD line....but I have to remember that for the most part it is just a copy of a Glock with a few changes, which seems to go against what the Glock is all about, simplicity.

Sig grip safety? Do any Sigs have grip safeties (besides their 1911 of course)?

I'm a Glock guy myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about the XD. Just personal preference.
