Re: My Guns Are Pretty (And Safer Than Your Tattoos)
I'm a chivalrist,
able-to-open-the-door-but-appreciate-when-others-show-me-kindness-and-hold-it-for-meist,
can-take-out-a-wall-and-lay-tile-but-don't-like-pumping-my-own-gasist,
Jane-Austen-and-Rudyard-Kipling-loverist,
separate-but-equal-genderist.
And I'm quite the she-bear-if-you-mess-with-my-kidsist.
(Stellar choice of references, Tacticool!)
Where's that put me on the scale? I'm pretty sure I'm not anything close to a radical feminist.

Re: My Guns Are Pretty (And Safer Than Your Tattoos)
The two best quotes I saw in the whole article
"Whenever I am given a gun as a gift from a gun manufacturer or gun enthusiast I express my gratitude by giving a gun to someone who does not own one."
"I just don’t think someone who gets his first gun will remain in the Democratic Party much longer."
Can I get an AMEN!
As far as the feminist situation is concerned, I see nothing wrong with the movement when not taken to extremes. Standing up for rights and freedoms of your sex, race, or religion is a good thing when not taken to extremes.
IMHO the extremists are the real problem with the world today. Society dictates everyday that there is no middle ground with beliefs anymore. Either you're far right, or far left... There is no exception. You're either pro-gun, or anti-gun. In the past you could just not care about the issue either way. If you didn't like guns, you didn't own them. Now, if you don't like guns you must ban and/or destroy them all. That is why the governments and media's of the world control the common citizens. Governments seek to divide us by creating extremes in our personal belief systems. I have known several Democrats that were close friends of mine. For the most part we had very similar opinions of guns, abortion, personal rights and freedoms, as well as issues we agreed could go either way and be fine. Don't get me wrong, we didn't agree on everything. We however didn't hold those personal beliefs (our right as Americans, as far as I knew) against each other. Now, because of more recent extremes in their party, they refuse to talk to me because I am a Republican. I'm the bad guy because of the party I support? Are they bad too, because of the same reason? The only thing I think they've done wrong is fall for the media's peer pressure to follow and not lead. Why the extremes?
I'll tell you why... A nation divided... you can fill in the blanks for yourself
Get us arguing amongst ourselves, and we will turn a blind eye to the government and their agenda.
Sorry for the rant, I just got done talking with the friend I mentioned in this post. He told me it would be better for us to not talk again, as our views are too different to not fight over. After 15 years of close friendship no less...
It has become a sad world that we live in.

Re: My Guns Are Pretty (And Safer Than Your Tattoos)
Other than my oversight and violation of the copyright rules of the forum...
This discussion is exactly what I had invisioned when I thought how interesting it would be to see who gets it, and who doesn't...Unfortunately, everyone seemed to get it, even the one's who were offended or didn't totally understand what the author was really illustrating...
My take on this was that your typical, liberal, progressive, radical, militant, tattoo festered feminist (there, I think I hit the key illustrative adjectives) might be the first kind of person to deny you the ability to exercise your right to keep and bear arms for lawful self-defensive purposes, much less hunting activities...And yet they might be the first to have and encourage unprotected promescuity, and abort the result of that "choice" made to conduct that activity, to dodge the responsibility and accountability...
See, it all goes back to my theory that people like us, who value an individuals moral right to defend themselves by taking a life that is threatening their own, or someone around them...We value more, the protection of life, in the taking of a life, that is a deadly threat to others; than the people who believe that it is a right to murder a life that is conceived through a series of choices (that seems to be a theme of theirs) to perform the act of conception...
The semantic corrolation of a woman (or even a man, gender doesn't really matter here to me) who is passionate about their beliefs and just happens to be tattooed, is just a catalyst to create a fairly substantive debate, with many people here who's views I respect, regardless of your personal experiences, passions, political, social and moral positions...
I hope everyone who knows me (in this forum), understands that I do look beyond a persons surface appearance and presentation, and do my best to get to know the "real" person, instead of getting hung up on things that do not effect the way that I evaluate the reality of an individual...I would think I am pretty good at that if given the time and input for me to get to know the "real" deal...

You are the "right" kind of radical...

Don't feel badly ... I'm married to one of those Democrats. We didn't quit talking to each other, but it took a lot of careful dancing to get here, and a constant commitment to not saying anything that isn't fact-based unless we preface it with "I think ..." or "I believe ..." He's very conservative, for a Democrat, and I'm fairly moderate, for a Republican, and we agree on many things - but the way the media would have it, we should hate each other because of the word printed on our voter registration cards.NOS wrote:I have known several Democrats that were close friends of mine. And yes, Alfred Lord Tennyson had it right - don't get between me and my cubs! They're both taller than me and out-weigh and out-muscle me, but that matters not a whit when I perceive threat to them.

I'm pretty sure that Tacticool quoted "The Female of the Species" by Rudyard Kipling.Yankee Girl wrote:NOS wrote:And yes, Alfred Lord Tennyson had it right - don't get between me and my cubs! I don't know about feminism, but he may be on to something when it comes to the tattoos and body piercings.

Re: My Guns Are Pretty (And Safer Than Your Tattoos)
Seems like the guy has a pretty conservative viewpoint, and due to his blogging/public speaking there have been several mean feminists writing to request his dismissal. I understood what he wrote to be treating that specific group with all the respect and sincerity that he could muster... hehe, it wasn't much.
I was walking to class once and noticed the shirt on the girl in front of me read, "Women make great leaders. Look, you're following one now."
My first thought was, "Um... you misunderstand the definition of leadership."
I know some great women who are self-proclaimed feminists. They aren't walking contradictions though, such as the ones referred to in the article.

You're right, my bad. I was thinking of a similar quote from Tennyson, but that one's definitely Kipling. Mea culpa.Hoi Polloi wrote:I'm pretty sure that Tacticool quoted "The Female of the Species" by Rudyard Kipling.

Nope I know at least 100 gun owning democrats. I am one despite the deer in my freezer, CHL and multitude of guns.NOS wrote: "I just don’t think someone who gets his first gun will remain in the Democratic Party much longer."

Nobody ever said you have to drink all the kool-aid any party espouses, although that appears to be unavoidable for automatons like Mr. Adams.
