I'd go with S&W but I'm prejudiced. Have three S&W ARs (plus other ARs) and numerous S&W pistols. As a basic starter AR, either would serve you well
In interest of full disclosure, I own Smith & Wesson stock. Opened $9.57 on 1/1/15, closed $23 on 12/31/15. ONLY thing I can thank Obama for.

The only knock that I have against the Aero is that they didn't include a rear sight. Throw a cheap Magpul MBUS in with it and be ready to shoot out of the box. Specs seem very good for the money though.jb2012 wrote:I change my mind Aero all day.cyphertext wrote:

I love my Ruger AR556. I have a Midwest Industries free float hand guard on there and threw a Magpul stock on there as well. Got it set up with a vortex 3x sight. I'll post a pic later when I get home from work.

How difficult was removing the A2 sight? If I get one I was thing about a free floating hand guard, but I read some reviews that said it was a beast to remove it to install the guard. (just curious)

Unless you have all the tools already, buying a rifle configured with a free float hand guard would probably be about the same price after you buy the tools.Jusme wrote:tms119 wrote:I love my Ruger AR556. I brought mine to a gunsmith and he did it for $50. Took him all of 20 minutes. He did not have any trouble removing he front site/gas block. I used a low profile gas block as a replacement FYI.

Thanks to my wonderful bride, I have the Ruger. I haven't had the chance to fire it yet, but I will report back as soon as I do.

Congrats! I'm leaning that way myself. Should find out this week if a friend can get a deal for me. Otherwise, I'm going to Academy for the Ruger.Jusme wrote:Thanks to my wonderful bride, I have the Ruger. I haven't had the chance to fire it yet, but I will report back as soon as I do.

I thought about you before I posted. It appears you have a good rifle and an OUTSTANDING wife!Jusme wrote:Thanks to my wonderful bride, I have the Ruger. I haven't had the chance to fire it yet, but I will report back as soon as I do.

Re: Ruger AR-556 or Bushmaster QR?
I just completed my AR build with an Aero upper, lower and bcg. Granted I'm only 60 rounds in, but I'm happy so far. I bet the full rifle would be a great value. And I did use a rear MBUS sight as well...cyphertext wrote:The only knock that I have against the Aero is that they didn't include a rear sight. Darn the bad luck. I was going to offer you my hardly used Ruger SR-556C for a great price. Would of been nice since we both live in the same state. Oh well. I'm not actively selling it but if I hear of someone looking for one I'd be glad to sell it so I can get something else I want. It hasn't even got 200 rounds through it and I've added some Magpul hardware.
