I am sitting back laughing at the conversations. Look, what do expect, its the government. I have yet to see any government office do things in an effective, quick, orderly manner. I deal with them on a regular basis so I should know. I took my short class several years back because I had other than NRA pistol instructors classes that were excepted. Not sure they would qualify now. I also had HPD teach me fingerprinting and that was accepted, although we do not need to now. I only teach private classes for wealthy peeps that do not want to go into class setting and sometimes only have a few day notice when they are flying into the states and DPS have been fine with this as long as I email Mrs Nealy.

My point is DO NOT DEPEND ON THE GOVERMENT FOR ANYTHING except for collecting taxes. Yes, you are going to spend and waste a great deal of time, but if this is what you really want then press ahead. You will have to go with the flow, be flexible, there is no other choice.

Just got this from Deadra.

"The CHL-90 is not required for renewal instructors. Notification for renewing went out in error. Instructor will not be required to apply until 6 months prior to them expiring. We will advise you of the renewal process closer to your actual renewal date sometime in June/July".

And that would make a nice email message to be sent to all instructors by DPS. It would surely save them a lot of time compared to answering questions individually.

It would be nice if they explained what they plan to do with those that responded to their "error". Are they going to refund our payment? Just wait until the proper time? Keep the money and force us to pay again? ???

Well, I emailed DPS, and 48 minutes later had a response!
My email...
Dear DPS,

It seems that DPS is saying that they sent out the instructor renewal notifications in error earlier this month.
How is DPS going to handle those instructors (like myself) that started the process, and paid the fee, based on that notification? Also, we are being told now that the CHL-90 will not be required, even if listed on the barcode page. Is it necessary to send in this page if the CHL-90 is the only thing listed on it?
Their unsigned response...
Yes…at this time we are still finalizing the renewal process for instructors. Do not email, fax or mail anything into the department as of yet. We will notify you all on what will be required.

I received this response this morning:

Renewal Instructors are not required to complete the CHL-90. The department has tried to have that form removed from the renewal checklist. At this time we are still finalizing the renewal process for instructors. Do not email or mail any forms in to the department. Notifications will be mailed out as soon as the process is set up.

I know it will get sorted out at some point, but accepting money from new instructor applicants while at the same time not allowing them to move forward in the process (due to the non-availability of the application form) is pretty poor program administration. Seems like they would either (1) continue to use the old form until the new form is available or (2) if the form is so flawed that they cannot continue using it then stop accepting new applications until the new form is available.

I've filled in the customer service form as directed... but am still awaiting an actual response. (I did get one that said they appreciate my patience while they research my needs.) But I really don't see the point in doing it the way they are. If they are going to send me the old form or some new version of the form, why go through the hassle and delay of making me ask for it and then wait a week or two for them to send it, instead of just keeping it on the website? If they aren't going to send me a form, then why accept new applications at all, if there is no way to move forward?

I suppose the main thing is to be thankful we are in a shall-issue state and have a pretty good licensing program... but it sure does drive you bonkers when you're stuck in an administrative pothole in the process.

I am right there with you. They have my money, and I've done my fingerprints, but no CHL-90. I emailed weeks ago, but have had no response. I take my NRA Instructor class Thursday/Friday, so I will be on the phone on Monday trying to figure out what to do next. In the meanwhile, my CHL license is in limbo too - submitted on Jan. 12 and still have had absolutely no online status update. Keep calling, and they tell me they are running behind, but my husband's status already has all kinds of things showing up (we submitted at the exact same time). So they have my money for 2 licences/certifications that are hanging out right now! I'm having to be doubly patient! :rules:
