Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot
I thought I had some idea how this skeet thing worked until you posted all those diagrams. Now, I realize I don't know squat! All this time I've just had a "point in the general direction of the bird and shoot" kinda philosophy.
Have not picked up a shotgun since thumb replacement in December, and ready to try it out. If available on the day y'all pick, I am in!

I'm sure they do. They've done it in competition, so they gotta follow the rules pretty strict.AndyC wrote:Can they do it from gun-down like you and I shoot?C-dub wrote:I haven't shot a perfect 25 yet, but many of my friends at my gun club have. Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot
I proposed Saturday 5/23, which would be a week from now because that has 4 votes. The following Saturday, 5/30, has 3 votes. The other dates have fewer.Crossfire wrote:I thought I had some idea how this skeet thing worked until you posted all those diagrams. Now, I realize I don't know squat! Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot
No, mine is a 28 inch barrel mossberg 500 I bought specifically for hunting dove and shooting clays at elm fork, knowing their no tactical shotgun rule. I have shot clays once but I suck terribly, so it doesn't count. I am a very green novice. Once I improve to be adequate, I would like to hunt dove. The Annoyed Man wrote:
As C-dub said above, Elm Fork does not allow the use of "tactical" style shotguns on their Skeet range unless the barrel equals or exceeds 21". So if you shotgun is a typical 18" room-broom, it is a no-go. Let me know, and I can bring along my old O/U for you to borrow.

Didn't say I couldn't break a few every now and then. Just said I haven't done it in a while.Pawpaw wrote:C-dub wrote:Don't let her fool you boys. And you have to admit, those diagrams are downright complicated!

Perfect choice. Don't worry about being a novice. You'll understand the rules very quickly after 1 round, and you'll probably find that you shoot better than you thought you did.drjoker wrote:No, mine is a 28 inch barrel mossberg 500 I bought specifically for hunting dove and shooting clays at elm fork, knowing their no tactical shotgun rule. Edited to add: I had the same thought.... that mastering Skeet wouldn't hurt my dove hunting skills, but I'm not certain if it was much help either! I've seen dove do things no clay bird could do, that's for sure. But certainly learning to mount your gun quickly and effectively, and to follow through are applicable skills for dove hunting.

By the way, what did you replace your thumb with?Crossfire wrote:Didn't say I couldn't break a few every now and then. Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot
So how does Saturday the 23rd sound to everybody? Say meet at the shotgun office at 9:00 a.m., and just take our chances with the weather? Seems to me like all the expected weather locally for the past couple of days has not lived up to the expectations.

I'll be helping another friend with his church group do a trap shoot at our club on the 23rd. You guys have a great time and I'll catch the next one.

Would you be available for the 30th?C-dub wrote:I'll be helping another friend with his church group do a trap shoot at our club on the 23rd. You guys have a great time and I'll catch the next one.

At this moment, yes, but ...The Annoyed Man wrote:Would you be available for the 30th?C-dub wrote:I'll be helping another friend with his church group do a trap shoot at our club on the 23rd. You guys have a great time and I'll catch the next one.
The playoff schedule for one of H-dub's softball teams comes out this week and that could change. That league still had two games to make up from earlier rained out games. We think they are going to end the season with the records the teams have without those two games and get the playoffs going as soon as they can when the fields are dry enough to play. Looking at the forecast, with at least a 30% chance of rain every day for another week, there's no telling when that will happen at this time.
Her team is the only undefeated team in the league this year and she's the only catcher and has almost half the teams RBI's. They are the favorites to be the champions this year. None of their games have been close.
I would feel badly if this were scheduled for the 30th and then I couldn't make that either. If the majority can make it on the 23rd, go ahead with that and then if that is rained out maybe we can try again on the 30th.

Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot
Fair enough, although we'll miss you. On the other hand, maybe that will leave some clays for the rest of us to shoot at.

Re: Time for Another Elm Fork Skeet Shoot
I just received the standing for our league and we are seeded first, as expected. They said the playoff schedule should be out later today. Our games have all been on Wednesdays and Sundays, so if they stick to that schedule, the 30th may be open for me. I'll let you know.
