Well, mine just arrived according to the tracking info.

Now the clock starts ticking. I will update as soon as I hear any progress from SA.
Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.

To me from Springfield today

"We underestimated how many people would rush to return them so we’re buried right now. If yours is one of the first ones then you’ll get it in about a month.
I've been pretty patient and understanding about the recall, not getting angry or worried, but this isn't right. They knew, how many guns they made. They worded their recall statement strongly, not leaving room for interpretation, warning of injury and death. What DID they expect?

Are they such poor businessmen that they underestimated the situation they created? I think they are simply trying to excuse the long turnaround time. There is no way a savvy business like SA would miscalculate and underestimate the returns. And saying that makes them appear incompetent. They should just own up to it and be honest about it, maintaining integrity, instead of making themselves look clueless.

Man, this has really soured me on Springfield. I've owned several of their products with never a problem, but waiting months for my gun to get fixed ( practically brand new at that) ain't right.

Oh, I'm disappointed, but taking it like a grownup. I mean, if you bought a car that had a recall, would you never buy that brand again? Sure, it is a giant pain in the hind parts. Yes, that is annoying. But I have more than one carry gun, including one pocket pistol in 9mm which is measurably smaller than the XDS. So although I hate having to send the gun in, I am not going to be left defenseless by it, and I have complete confidence in my other Springfield products. I have also had good customer service experiences in the past with them.

I'll grant you that they could have been handled better, but I can also understand that they're probably freaking out. I'll send in my gun and just deal with it.

This just provides a great reason to have more than one gun! And if you need reasons to have 10 or 20 guns, I am sure people will chime in

I think it's because the XDs & Shield are good pocket guns. Im not a pocket gun type there a little too small for me (Sub compacts).
For me I would go for a compact gun. Springfield & S&W both make popular compact guns like the XDm ,3.8 etc....
I have read the the XD & SW M&P series are great guns. :headscratch

I guess I worded my question wrong.

Why is there a larger deal made over the recall for Springfield than there is the recall on the Shield?

The recall wasn't a big deal, but the SA unpreparedness to handle it has been a really big deal... Saying "we underestimated the amount of guns that would be returned" reveals incompetence, since they worded their recall very strongly warning of injury and death, yet thought the only few would respond to their recall.

I love my XDm and XD-S and respect the SA, but they seem to be running around clueless with this recall. Making conflicting statements and finally admitting that they "underestimated it". They knew how many guns they made, they put out a very strong statement, and they thought people would ignore it?

As to the Shield, I only learned about it yesterday. I don't know much about that one.

The new Springfield Armory link settles all the arguments about the turnaround time.
