If you are looking for a quick, verifiable way to get your paperwork to DPS, I used USPS Express mail. It arrived the next morning by 10:00 and I was able to both track the progress and obtain the recipient's signature via email. It worked for me anyway. I just wish they had used the same method when sending my license to me.

I wouldn't bother.

I sent my packet Certified from Houston on a Friday and got confirmation that it arrived on Monday. It'll be 2 days max from Katy.

Cost me $3.79...

I sent my packet out certified/return receipt. CHL office recognized that as a start date. I sent my fingerprint card with the missing signature out via priority mail with tracking. CHL office did not recognize the date of receipt. CHL office instead recognized the date they finally pulled that envelope from some dusty nether region in AND logged it in the computer as receipt date. Lesson learned from this: ALWAYS SEND USPS CERTIFIED/RETURN RECEIPT. Doing otherwise cost me an extra month of processing time.

Mine went there two weeks ago via certified mail. Status still hasn't changed from "Package Sent".

Curious how many applications they process per month, size of the staff, and how labor intensive the background check process really is. Their gating items may be turn around on Federal background info. In other words, they are dependent on other Government arms.

I'm patient and don't have high expectations for a quick turn. I doubt the concealed carry group inside of DPS has much of a budget to work with.

I gave up watching the website. Had my fingerprints rejected, had to do them over. No mention on website just processing application. Took weeks to change from packet sent to processing.
