An Academy Sports & Outdoors in Sunset Valley was robbed at gunpoint Friday night, police said.
Just before 8:50 p.m. , two armed men wearing ski masks entered the store at 5400 Brodie Lane and demanded money while customers were still inside, officials said.
The men left with an undisclosed amount of cash, officials said, at the end of one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Austin police Lt. Gary Rosch said at least one round was fired inside the store.
No one was injured, Rosch said.
Rosch said the men left in a black four-door vehicle with a covered license plate.
No detailed description of the men was available.
A representative for the Sunset Valley Police Department, the main agency investigating the incident, was not available for comment Friday night.
The small City of Sunset Valley is surrounded by the City of Austin and has become a hub for dozens of large retailers. The 102,000-square-foot Academy opened in May 2006.

Re: Austin Academy Robbed
Oh. My. God. That is exactly where I was buying my Mosquito I posted about!!!! Good thing I went earlier in the day!
Wow.
Edit: I've run through various scenarios on what I would do in situations including ones like this. First and foremost it would be easy to hide and stay out of the way. After a shot was fired though I'm not sure...
I still can't believe I came so close to being there.

I'm surprised these guys didn't get themselves shot. There seem to be a fair amount of CHLers and LEOs frequenting that store from what I remember.
Re: Austin Academy Robbed
Wow, I used to shop there a lot before I moved!
And of any place for a bad guy to pick to rob, they pick Academy?!? They sell guns and ammo and have hunters, CHLs, LEOs, etc. in all the time. You'd think they'd pick a place that wasn't quite as gun friendly! They're lucky they didn't get taken down as soon as they pulled out their weapon. I'm still too new at this...scary to think how I would have reacted, but I just hope my instincts would have been good and I'd have done the right thing.

criminals aren't always known for being clever :-) I've read stories about them walking right past uniformed officers to hold up places.

I'm surprised too; Sunset Valley is small and its common to see their police officers in and around the stores there. Its the Academy I shop at.

I'm not surprised they robbed an Academy. . . I'm surprised they only took cash and didn't hit the gun counter.
